Great Plains Extra 300 S build
Great Plains 300 S kit. Like it says, I'm getting ready to start a new build. Is there anything I should look out for while building? I have a Super Tiger 60, an OS 61 to go in it, which would be the best. I have a tendancy to "overbuild" for strength. I think I will try to make a "light build" this time unless somebody tells me to make it stronger. Also, I have a complete smoke system I'm going to try to set up, any hints on that ? I'm strickly just an intermediate "sport flyer" I don't get real aggressive when flying. ( When I do get" aggressive" it seems like my planes don't last as long.) How does it fly?. Any surprises ? Thanks advance

I'm not sure a smoke generator is a good idea if you want to build lite. I love the Extra 300 S, when it's done pictures please.

I realize you are using a 60 sized engine, but what size is the Extra, .40 or .60? The reason I ask, is that I built the .40 size from the kit but put a .75 on it and made no modifications whatsoever to make it work, balanced fine. Fastest plane I have and climbs out of sight quickly, but I am just an intermediate sport flyer as well.
As for the plane itself, I have seen the .60 in action and it flies beautifully. I have to say that the .40 that I built was just as good. Mine built pretty light to my liking, even though I tend to build heavier and a .75 2-stroke on board. I say, whether .40 or .60, build it as the plans call for and enjoy. You will have a great flying plane!

If you can swing the cash, a Saito 125 is an awesome combo in this plane. She's my favorite right now!

Hi Outdoorhunting,
The 300S is an excellent choice for aerobatics. I just followed the directions that came with the kit and everything just fell into place. It sure is nice to start out with a box of wood and end up with a beautiful flyer like the 300S.
I am using an OS .90 two stroke in mine. The engine is a little heavy but I love the power it puts out.
Good luck on your building and keep us posted on your progress.

I am contemplating building this model myself. I have a partially completed kit and was wondering how well the airplane flies. from what i have read it flies well. I have a .18 CC converted Ryobi weed eater engine that i would like to put in it but i am not sure if it will have enough power. what do you guys think?
and just for grins and giggles i thought about using marcus shrenkers color scheme. His extra 300L is parked at my local airport so i have a unique oppertunity to get the scheme correct. It is a beautifull airplane BTW.I have seen him fly it, I must admit he is good. To be honest seeing that airplane fly is what has me thinking about finishing this kit that i obtained in a buy out deal. thanks for any input.

Hello 552transco- Your plane is absolutely beautifull!!! I had started on mine over a month ago & just lost interest after building the tailfeathers & fus. But after starting to read this thread I got inthused again. I'm now ready to join the wing halves, (always the hardest for me as I have to have that perfect). I've got them on the work bench now with a bunch of weight on them waiting for the epoxy to dry. I'll try to let them sit for a couple of days to make sure. I'm powering w/ a Super Tiger 75 ( Italian job). I've got a complete smoke system (Sullivan) I going to put in it. A couple of guys said that the 75 might not put out enough heat for it to work, but I've gotta try it. If I can figure out how to post pictures on this, I'll do it shortly. Good old RCU, got me fired up to do it. Thanks everybody !!!

I'm glad to see you are back building. The tail feathers sure are not exciting to build. The fuselage is a little more exciting but after your wings are complete and you can kind of put it together just to look at it is when it starts getting more exciting. Don’t give up Big Guy we want to see some pictures of your progress.
As far as posting pictures, it’s really pretty easy. Here is how you do it:
1. Click on the REPLY in the last thread (it’s in the upper right hand corner)
Just below the box where you type your message you'll notice a spot that says “Click here to upload images and files” Click on this to open the browse window.
2. Click the "browse" button, find the image on your hard drive, and select it. You will see that the image location has appeared in the space provided under the heading "Select a file to upload”. At this point, all you have to do is click the OK button and you're done.
Take care and keep us up-to-date,
