Thanks, I enjoy helping other pilots out. Unlike some I have met in the RC world I have nothing to hold from anyone. After all I have gotten replies from other flyers on ways of doing things. It is sad to say but true scale is not what it has been. Less and less are doing scale projects now.

Looks like a set of robart gear may soon be on my Cub. I called them up to see what special they could do on a set for me to try out and report back on my site about them. Write a little review on them and so on. Well to finish the story I will get them from a local hobby shop as I can get a better price from them.

I realy like the size of the 1/5 scale for transport on a regular basis. The build was very enjoyable also. I still want to build a detailed 1/4 scale or 1/3 scale Cub to compete with though. The OS 61 would fly the 1/5 scale well. I should have gone with the new Saito 90T. I used aluminum to make the Jury Struts and hope that won't be a problem for strength.

Cub Man, you will like the Robart gear. I still have to make some covers and I wish they would have given some instuction for filling in the frame of the gear. I used balsa and glassed over that. For the price they should include the strut covers IMO. I'll be using your site when I build my next Cub.

i am thinking about using tite bond glue for the rib stitching, i have seen one done this way and it looks good and you can make them the size you want with no trouble, then use the wet-proof tape, i called sig and ordered all the stuff they had for the koverall as i am not taking chances. They did say to use the stix it to glue it down and then use a heat gun to shrink it before putting on the first coat of nitrate dope, you can just dope it on, just either way will work, and since i already have the stix it............

I applied the fabric with the nitrate dope around the edges then shrunk it. I then applied 3 coats of dope to fill the weave. If I had to do it all over again I would have applied another coat of dope especially over the sheeted areas, I did have some pin holes show up when I applied the paint. You have to get right up to them to see them but I know they are there;)
You will love the Koverall once you get it applied and shrunk, just make sure you have everything sanded good before applying.

The windows and windshield are installed and drying. I will finish the assembly tomorrow and do a final balance check. I think I will need to add a little weight to the nose to get it to balance. If all goes well I will get to put it in the air Sunday. I have a friend lined up to shoot a digital Video of the 1st flights.

I read an article somewhere, where a guy zip tied a garbage bag in each of his planes. Well I hope the weather will be good for us on Sunday. I plan on taking my big Cub up after all the work I did to rotate the motor to conceal the muffler and also try my two-tank setup. My Club is having their picnic this Sunday.

I'm building the 1/5 sig kit and using an old saito 90 twin. Why do you say you should have gone with the new 90t? I'm nervous now...have you had problems with that engine?

i made a test piece 8x8 square, and i tried several methods with number of coats,thicknes and different sanding techs and thought the same, i will never use mylar again!

I am interested in seeing how your covering comes out. I am sure you will like the results!!
I went to the hobby shop today and picked up battery packs for the transmitter and receiver. I bought a 2700ma Ni-MH battery for the receiver, that should give me alot of flying time between charges. I also picked up some trim tape for the windshield and a gallon of fuel. I will break the engine in tomorrow and hopefully fly on Sunday.

The older .90T will be a good motor for this plane also. I was just refering to the weight of the 130T. It made my Cub a little on the heavy side. Still flys great though. You building yours clipped or full wing?

I ran my Magnum 120 today and all I can say is Sweeeetttttt!!!
This is my 1st 4-stroke engine and I love it so far. I choked the engine and turned the prop thru the compression stroke a half dozen times until I saw fuel move thru the line to the carb, I then released the choke and truned the prop thru again and attached the glow plug battery and on the 2nd flip of the prop it fired up and ran fine. I ran the engine thru the break in cycle as described in the manual with no problems. The engine seems to have alot of power and I can't wait to see how it performs after I get a gallon or two of fuel thru it.
It isn't looking good for the maiden tomorrow, they are calling for 15mph winds tomorrow and that is a bit more than I feel comfortable with for the maiden flight. I will get the Cub out for a photo shoot at the least tomorrow.

Anthony, I have run the OS 120 4-stroke a lot (from which your engine was clonedm btw) and suggest that the best prop combo for your plane would be the 16X6. I saw somewhere up the the thread that you were thinkin about using the 16X8, but let me say that's a little too much prop for the 120.

I'm building it clipped with the old 90T (new, eBay), robart gear, and on-board glow. Hey...if you get a sec could you describe/close up photos on how you cut your cowl? I like it! I've been thinking about how to start this tedious task. 3 pieces, srew together seems like the way to go with a twin type installation.

I ran another tank of fuel thru the engine this morning, it is too windy to fly today so I went ahead and shot a few pics. I think the clear coat gave it a nice sheen. I still need to finish off the interior but she is ready to take to the air:D
With any luck I will put the maiden on it in the next few days. Here are a few pics I just took of the Cub.

I used to fly out of my yard but too many trees now, a friend owns a Sod Farm 1/2 mile down the road with 50 acres of nice mowed open grass. He has very nice dirt runways where he just cut the Sod.

The Cub looks realy good. Don't worry about flying it, it will fly like a trainer. Just get some altitude incase the engine quits.

I always cut the hole for the cylinders before I cut the cowl inhalf. I do this by taping a piece of paper to the fuselage with the engine mounted and cut a hole in the paper so it fits around the engine. Then I use the paper as a template to cut the cowl while it is mounded to the plane without the engine. Once I have the cylinder holes cut, I use the center of them to cut the cowl inhalf. Then I glue plastic around the top of the bottom section to glue the nuts too. I didn't put mine in scale locations but its not hard to do. Here are a couple of photos, I hope Anthony don't mind..

Thanks, Steve! I'll follow your lead with cutting the cowl for my 90T.

And yes, thanks Anthony for allowing the temporary hi-jacking of your thread. That plane looks awesome! 1/4 scale is next...
