DISIGN FLAW? Yak-54 stab failure
Hello, I was flying my Yak-54 3D 50 this morning and both horizontal stabs seperated from the aircraft in level flight (see pics). It seems that this would be a design flaw. The plane had 10 flights, and was just completed a week ago (see my other post, a little praise). I guess my question is, will nitro replace (free), or am i outta luck.
Thank you
Peter Cothery

Hell you still have a prop blade left over...!!!! Looks like a Spar (or lack therof) break...I usually epoxy the CRAP out of mine in that area. Maybe PM John and see what he sez...Good Luck...!!!

I did epoxy it well, with slow cure, made sure all covering was cut away..............As for the one prop blade and the over all damage, wich was'nt too bad, I was able to keep it in a very slow inverted flat spin and it landed in soft dirt

No, I've been building and flying ARF's ( since the 80's with EZ ARF's) for a long time and I'm always very careful, use a new blade and never put too much pressure. Plus if you look at the pic's you can see where it came apart inside or outside where th covering would have been cut.

Ouch!
For my 3D planes I typically put on a CF "strut" to add structural support and help prevent things like this.
It is a cheap safeguard and only requires a few minutes of extra work.
The Yak is a good candidate for this as it can be snapped quite hard even at low speeds.
