When you use google it... (Tracking cookie)
Awhile Back I was listing to Local/public Radio and they had a subject about on-line spam/Advertisements and tracking cookies being discussed. If I remember correctly they said over 30 tracking cookies go to your computer each time you use google.
Understandably its a free service, but with every site now there is more and more "recommendations" about what "they think" your interested in. [link=http://www.google.com/privacy/ads/]Google opt out page[/link]
More and more sites are collecting info on us wither we like it or not and there isnt being any regulations about what can and can not be placed on a PC. [:@]
I have a few old emails addy's and one I've been needing to cancel. One of them started sending me spam with using my first name. Thing is I rarely used this email and dam sure never had any personal information on it[:@][:@][:@][:@]
Any opinions?

if you use firefox use the private browser function and nothing will be stored on your pc , thers also another called the tor project its free down load called tor browser , when you install it you just click on the onion logo and it then encrypts your connection and IP and other stuff then it automatically opens your firefox browser and your free to do use the internet annonymously and no one can trace you .

RE: When you use google it... (Tracking cookie)
I use google chrome and eveywhere I go I see rc ads on websites that have nothing to do with rc because google knows what sites I visit and they tailor make the ads accordingly... Its pretty creepy if you ask me. It's like if I followed my neighbors around seeing what shops they go to and than tried to sell them similar stuff at their doorstep.

Most cookies are harmless, people just get all freaked out over it. Unless you're doing something illegal I wouldn't worry about it.

People get freaked out when they hear the world "tracking" in anything. It really doesn't mean what you think it means. There are several types, all of which are pretty complicated little bits of code, especially for the single job they do. A cookie does not log your web history and mail it out to someone, it doesn't work that way. It just points certain parts of your browser. Yes, the ability sure is there to do some tracking, but google doesn't do that, and most browsers are designed to stop that from happening. Recently, some people got upset about facebook using tracking cookies, and they really had no idea what they were upset about. I suggest you read into what a cookie actually is before bashing a website.

Im not bringing up using "private browsing" on Mozilla because I know what cookies are and how they work (because auto log in on RCU is nice). Its a little more on the subject of just how much information is being sent to who and where. My girlfriend just received an email from horizon hobby and the only way her email is remotely linked to Horizon is she get some of our paypal info to that email. Does this make any sense?
Especially when the email has your first/last name and say "do you want to be larger". Seriously I got a enlarge you "junk" email with my first name on it.
Or does anyone read the privacy statement that is sent to you (by law) from your bank/Federal credit union?
Fyi if you watch one episode of American dad on Netflix, it recommends soft core anime porn as a "people who watched this also like"

LOL Glad I quit netflix a few years back when my account got blacklisted for renting too many DVD's a month. Used to be on the 8 at a time plan, and watch old TV shows on DVD at work on the weekends I was listed as getting too many DVD's cause I'd get around 32 a month(FYI at 4-6 eps a disk as was common then the 8 disk wouldn't even last me a full weekend on the clock)...
I remember getting some weird recommendations, but nothing as bad as that
Also those tracking cookies really irk me nothing is more fun than seeing strange ads pop-up when others are around (similar to the porn for american dad that was mentioned) when doing a simple seaarch. Then the other person just stares at you with a strange expression on their face.
