Street Legal 700cc Golf Cart "Newest Idea"
Just thought of this the other day. Why not buy a newer type of golfcart, rip the old stock engine out and place a 600-700cc motorcycle engine in it. Would get great gas milage and have pretty intense acceleration. Get the brake light, blinkers and headlights all working properly with a valid license to drive it and I dont see any issue with driving it in the city "no highway driving". Would now like to get a moped but dont want all that deminished powerloss. If i were to do this I would make a roll cage and weld the internal diff gears in the rear. This is just a thought and dont laugh because im being serious.[8D]

Its a fun idea, but there are lots of little details that would probably prevent you from registering it legally being able to drive it on the road. I could be wrong though, I've never tried to register a golf cart for road use [&:].
Either way it might be a fun project, I've worked on tons of pointless non-road legal vehicles for messing around with in abandoned parking lots and dunes.

Accidents can happen off-highway..... A car hitting a golf cart at 30mph would not be pretty. For the golf cart anyway, the car could probably drive away.

No different with a moped and those are legal. I just want to save some money and be able to get some raw power out of it.

Here's the problem (well at least around here anyways) any vehicle that has 4 wheels or more has to have safety belts and air bags. If you make one that has only 3 wheels it can be classed as a motorcycle and dose not need safety belts or air bags. A guy from my church is doing a little 3 wheel car that uses a 6.5HP or a 9HP honda engine. I haven't seen it but my bro has.

It's a cool idea, but you might as well just get a Yamaha Rhino. Much better equipped, 4 wheel drive, can be licsenced, much better suited to regular road speeds, and can easily be made street legal.

Or you could get a Suzuki carry or the Japaneses mini trucks. They are 4 or 5 speed manuals (but that can be a problem for those who can't drive a stick) they have 4wd (some have a 4WL too) they have heater and enclosed cab (some have A/C) and they have locking diffs.[>:]
but like I said before "if its got 4 wheels it has to have safety belts and airbags" at least around here it dose.

RE: Street Legal 700cc Golf Cart "Newest Idea"
This is NOT a new idea by any stretch of the imagination.
You guys need to go to Arizona or Florida and check out some of the retirement communities, they've got all sorts of custom carts running around them on the streets.
And as far as hopping one up, the PGA Tour pros have been doing that for years too. Many of them live in gated golfing commuities, and for a while there it was a "mine's bigger/better than yours" sort of thing between a lot of them. Last I heard, first one had one custom made to break the 55mph speed limit, another guy got one that broke 65, and last was word that one of them almost killed himself with one that reached triple digits before flipping and dumping the driver who missed a month or two on tour.
