Kat 40 Dude!!
I recently built my second Katana40 ARF from AccelHobbys ( www.ACCELHOBBY.com )
My first one was the first version they released which was covered in Chinacote. One of the best flying planes I ever had so when the new version came out I just had to have one. Its much Improved with real covering better elevator authority etc.
I havent weighed this one yet but my first one came in at 4 lbs 4oz
Im using the same eqp on this one so Im hoping it comes out even lighter. Power is from a sweet little webra .50.
Heres just a few pics I took as I built it.

Heres a few more.....I think it took me longer to put the gear in the plane then it did to assemble it. BTW one nice thing about Accel is they take paypal....gotta love that.

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
Ok heres a pic of the rudder....It comes prenotched from the factory but I had to make the notch a little larger for the clearance I needed. There was a cpl of small changes made in the build process an I was told to go here to see the new updated details : http://quicker.rchomepage.com/accel...gs40_manual.pdf Also it will soon be up at www.AccelHobby.com
Cpl pics of my old Kat to make you drool as well, Havent got the chance to fly the new one yet.[]
I have a small avi clip of the Kat doing a tail touch Ill try to post soon.

Nice pics guys. Only flying pics I have of me are these low res captures from my video camera. I've got an SK 50 from Kangke on mine. I really like the extra punch it gives, but my MECOA 46 did well before the bearings went out. My OS 46FX did very well on it too.
Here is a short video clip. You'll have to fix the URL. Copy and past it to your browser and take out the spaces.

I have one too, and went right to the source. A friend recommended www.AccelHobby.com, and when I saw that the plane was the same as offered by other folks, I snapped on up. Three days later I was building. 48 hours later, I hit the field. There were other planes on the site too. If you haven't been to their site, go have a look. It's worth the time.

I got my from Accel too. Looks like they have some really neat stuff coming up. I just might have to try some more of there planes. If they turn out to be anything like the Kat they will be winners! I like being able to purchase direct from the manufacterer....part of my KISS theory.

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
Ok its official! My new kat weighs 4 lbs 1 oz a webra .50 4 3004 servos an one 507 a futaba 600 sq pack an old jr reciever I have with no case ( no clue what model it is) Only thing I did to save weight was use some light foam tires I had on hand mainly because they were slightly larger than the included wheels. Thats with a 12.75x3.75 apc prop which is HEAVY! Oh an was stingy with glue....used gorilla glue with a little CA to hold things faster. Just think with some mini servos an a light Nimh pack we are looking at a sub 4lb plane. Just incredible in an ARF.

Wow, you guys crack me up. Accel builds a great model and we love it too. Hey ProBrodude (aka TailTwister), why two names in the same thread? Looks like a "schilling" to me. Now why would you go and do that after all the love we give you!LMAO!

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
I got a Kat 40 for Christmas from my son. He is a very very good boy. I probably should have got him more than a pair of underwear and an ink pin. It's the thought that counts, right?
The fuse and wing are such a tight fit I'm thinking about using CA to attach them together. What do you guys think about that? I know it will hold them but will the bond be strong enough?

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
dhooks, did you mix the two or did you use gorilla glue first and then use the CA to fill in? I have used CA on other fuse/wing joints before also just not on a 3D profile. I used epoxy on my CG Extreme and then used med CA to fill in the gaps. Epoxy is the best I know I'm just trying to cut some weight.

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
I put gorrilla glue around my wing. Once it was slid into place I hit it a few places with CA for an instant bond. Plus I have the durability of a good poly glue.

Hmmm I think mine were 18 inches but I just had them laying around....they dont need to be that long. Just hold your servo wire from the rear hole an see how much longer you need to reach the reciever area.

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
Hey guys, how long of servo extentions did you use for the rudder and elevator? I could not find this anywhere in the manual.
Thanks
Thanks

RE: Kat 40 Dude!!
Ok woooohooooooooo I finally got to fly mine today. Brief flight report. I didnt get many pics an the ones I do have on disk arent reading right for some dumb reason. Also I ran up to Canton NC to fly with Capman at his field. Turns out the eleavation is about 1300 feet higher then where I fly. I about went crazy trying to get my webra dialed back in. Never got it quite right.
I started off with the CG ? wherever it balanced out with no weight
That seemed to be slightly nose heavy so I strapped my 4way wrench to the tail That did the trick.....maybe a little to much actually. It climbed slightly when inverted as well as having to hold a little down elevator when landing.
Blenders: entered them very crisply an fairly violent. The tail really pops around!
On into an inverted flat spin.....nice flat spin that slowly looses altitude, I couldnt quite get it to climb. Maybe some more CG work an throws.
Inverted harriers. I think this is one of the planes best maneuvers. Just floats down out of the sky with hardly any correction. It may be even better then my chuckflyer!
Hovering. Very stable but with my engine problems it caused issues Still got in a cpl 9's.
Upright harrier: Still has some of the wing rock the older P model had. I havent tried any mixing. I did manage to drag the tail down the runway a time or so. At one point it was in some tall grass beside the runway an jerked a bunch of grass out in the elevator counterbalance. I nearly lost it right after that as it jammed it up an I was heading right into the flight line inverted with almost NO down elevator......It popped free an I did a nice inverted wall right over the pits. Around 60 degrees AOA it does start to smooth out btw.
TRing. Because of my engine problems I never was able to get much going on. I did manage a cpl aileron assisted rolls.
Knife Edge. This is probably ties as the best maneuver this plane does. Hi alpha knife edge is slow an sweet with very little coupling. Almost none at my forward CG slightly more back farther.
This one is a keeper. Once I get my engine back in tune where Im comfortable bringing it down on the deck an wringing it out Ill update my opinions on it. This was one of those days where I never quite felt comfortable an my thumbs showed it.
Overall one of the better planes Ive flown....especially the inverted harriers... . With 10 being perfection Id say we are looking at about a 9. Ive never flown a perfect plane....but this one comes close
Special thanks to Capman for helping me with the webra ( he had his yellow Accel Katana GS there ) an welcome to the brotherhood!
