Default RE: Q-25 Pylon Racing

September 11, 2011 - Sunday - Richardson Radio Control Club Q-25 and EF1 Pylon Series Race #4. It looked like the weather would be another issue in North Texas with the weatherman calling for chance of rain and 15-20 MPH winds. The clouds broke off, out came the sun and beautiful blue skies to race in. The winds were a little tricky due to it changing from SW to W to NW and back all day long. The turnout was light with only (8) EF1 pilots and (12) Q-25 pilots for (20) total making this event. The racing action was fast and furious with several close and exciting heats in both classes.

* Special thanks to the Richardson Radio Control Club hosting club, their members who gave up their flying field time so we could race, all the volunteers, pylon judges, and officials, and pilots who made this possible. Thank you to Club President Ed Kettler for all the great photos and wonderful hospitality.

Congratulations to all our race winners:

Q-25:

1st: Larry Mowatt #31 - 16 points - Richardson Radio Control Club
2nd: Tom Lindholm #46 - 15 points - Richardson Radio Control Club
3rd: Gene Hodges #44 - 12 points - Fort Worth Thunderbirds *
4th: Gary James #15 - 12 points - Weatherford Aero Modelers Society *

* tie breaker determined by cuts.

EF1:

1st: Richard Oliver - 12 points
2nd: Jerry Small - 11 points
3rd: Jason Oliver - 10 points

Hello fellow Racers!

I guess the weather in North Texas has tagged us again! Grand Prairie was dry as a bone until 8:30am this morning when the rains came. Current weather forecast is for 60-80% rain with 20-40% chances of thunderstorms. Although we badly need the rain why today. Q25 & EF1 races for today Sunday October 9th have been canceled. No reschedule or make up date for this race.

Next Q25 & EF1 Series Pylon Races will be November 13, 2011 at FW Thunderbirds Field. This will be the final Q25 & EF1 Series races of the season.

Gene Hodges - Race Coordinator, FW T-Birds
Ray Thompson - Race CD, GTRCC

Results: Sunday, November 13, 2011: Q25 & EF1 Pylon Series Race #6 at Fort Worth Thunderbirds Field. What a beautiful sunny and warm day for pylon racing. Winds were out of the South / Southwest at 15-20 mph with light gust. Eight Q25 pilot made the race, but only seven raced (one pilot brought his radio case without the radio). Due to the windy conditions only two EF1 pilot came to the races and decided not to race. SPECIAL THANKS to EF1 pilots Jerry Small and George Parks for their help with the Q25 races instead just racing against each other. Also, THANK YOU to Gary Nelson and Jonathan Efinger for the excellent job they did as our pylon judges today. After an afternoon of crash free racing Ken Knotts had a racer start having trim problems, he finished the heat race and found a cracked fuselage. Talk about dodging a bullet (see photo). Lets not forget Jeanne (The Boss) Alphin for all her hard work registering the pilots and keeping all the race stats, GREAT JOB AS ALWAYS!

Congratulations to the race winners: 1st - Gary Alphin #22 (16 points), 2nd - Gene Hodges #44 (14 points), and 3rd - Darrell Barabash #14 (11 points).

Thank you to Woody Lake for all his help (we put him to work as a caller today). He also took many photos for us before he had to leave.
