Saito 91 inverted mount - Fuel usage
My inverted mounted Saito 91 starts and runs fine.....runs up and idles well....however on a 14oz tank it burns fuel like crazy. Can only stay up about 12 minutes. Seems to have alot of oil out the exhaust as well.....it is in a cub so I am not aggressive with the throttle...any thoughts ?

This may sound strange but try if and let me know how it worked for you.
I cut my fuel consumption on my inverted Saito 1.80 in half by disconnecting the exhaust pressure line. You will have to re-tune and run a little richer at full throttle but the midrange will end up a lot leaner and if this is where you spend most of your time then you can reduce fuel consumption a lot. My 1.80 I was using 13oz of fuel in 7-8 minutes before a made this change. I now use 7-8 oz in 8 minutes.
In both cases I set as lean as possible, just rich enough so it kept running during vertical maneuvers.

RE: Saito 91 inverted mount - Fuel usage
It is snowing here so I could not fly yesterday but.....I leaned out the low end and could tell right away that fuel consumption was better just running a tank through on the ground. What is suprising to me is even with the low end rich on these engines it runs just fine. I want to take a couple of flights before I take off the tank pressure line. Will advise.

pzar. leave the pressure line on, just tune the low end and lean out t the high end and you will be fine. At your altitude you'll need the tank pressure. If you're not sure how to do this ask someone more experienced at your club.
