Default Plans for Break in Bench?

Does anyone have any plans or ideas to build a mount for breaking in engines? I have some ideas but not sure where to start. I have a good solid workbench to attach it to. I have seen the kind you buy but I think I can build one to better suit my needs. I am mainly going to break in 4 strokes .91 or larger. Any comments or pictures of your benches would be appreciated & welcome.

This one can be C clamped to a work bench or clamped to a Workmate and taken outside... Fulfills my major requirements - simple, easy and cheap

Default RE: Plans for Break in Bench?

I have a very nice Engine Test Bench that I built after looking at one at http://airfieldmodels.com/informatio...s/break_in.htm

I went to sears and bought a 'tool stand' I think that it was made for acting as a table for a scroll saw or table mounted bandsaw. It came with some particle board crap for the top and for the shelf. I went to Home depot and bought a nice pine board for the top and the shelf...stained them then sealed them.

For the mount I used a PSP engine test stand (http://www.pspmfg.com/EngineTestStand.html). For Bigger engines you can get a backplate mounting fixture for the PSP stand. In the end you will have a test stand that you can use for any model airplane engine out there (piston engine) that is safe and at a convenient height for making ajustments. I will post some pictures of it later, when I am home from work.

Jim,
h
Looks simple enough. I just need something easy enough to break in engines without spending $100. I do like the one that you can buy and will eventually get one but right now I'm just trying to save up for some retracts. Thanks for all your guys ideas!

I hear you... total cost of my stand was under $25.00 (with most of the $$$ in the motor mount), and I had the plywood, screws, popsicle stick and music wire throttle linkage and clevis laying around...

Perhaps not in the budget at the current time, but check the stand out at http://www.pspmfg.com/. Well constructed and handy to use. I like mine.

I get a motor mount that fits the engine and then screw
it to a big heavy saw horse. I strap on the fuel tank
with rubber bands and have a push rod for the throttle.

If I'm running anything larger than a 1.20 I throw a 8"
cinder block on the built in shelf.

Not fancy but it's worked out fine for more than 25 years.
Simple,functional and inexpensive.

Tom,

Used the Tatone/MECOA - PN 51612 .049 - .80 size - $17 plus shipping... They also make a .30 - 1.5 version, but about twice the $$

http://www.mecoa.com/tatone/teststands.htm

Cheers!

Jim
