Default Help Searching RCU: Transportation ideas to build Racks

I'm new to RCU... I've been trying to search for ideas on how people are building racks to transport their planes to the air field (*WITH NO LUCK). For example- PVC racks, roof straps, best practices,.................. You know, tricks of the trade-

I can't find anyting. certainly this topic has come up in the past. Is there a special way? words to use? filters?

Thanks-

There are those of us that go overboard. I have a 8'x12' Featherlight trailer that I've outfitted with PVC to hold planes, pegboards for spare props, a workbench up front in the V nose and a couple of cool Stanley tool boxes from Home Depot. At our club funfly last weekend one of the visitors came up to check it out with his wife. Would you believe she had the audacity to ask my wife if she new I was an Addict before we were married...... The Nerve!!!

Totally HARD CORE! 8x10 trailer! It looks like you have it set up like a hobby shop (with a peg board to boot). Anyone who buys a trailer to transport MULTIPLE planes to the airfield has the right priorities...

In this case I just happened to remember where some of the questions were asked. There are probably some in the 'Beginners' forum also. I've been a member of RCU for about five years which means I've seen a lot of posts on this. Some of the threads you'll find may be several years old. You'll see the picture of my carrier in a bunch of them. My brother made it for me.

My carrier is between 6 and 6.5 feet long. The trainer in the picture has about a 6 foot wing. The base is wider than the plane's stabilizer. My truck has a 6.5 foot bed. The carrier cannot slide forward or back more than a few inches, and the design means the wing cannot hit anyting. If it did slide sideways the base would hit something before the plane did. The dual rail design makes it very stiff. I lean it against the garage wall, with plane, for storage. I have trouble lifting and carrying things. I can hold one end and drag the whole thing across concrete, gravel, grass, etc.

As long as the fuselage and wing are secured well with bungee cords the model will ride just fine in an open pickup bed at highway speeds. I got a fiberglass bed lid so I can lock everything up and protect it from the weather.
