Default Low Idle Adjustment

I have recently acquired a GP P-51 with a OS .46 SF with a pump. It is hot little engine and the plane goes like a bullet. Problem being, I bought it from a gentleman that lives at a much lower altitude than I, (I'm at around 6000 ft. ASL). I am trying to figure out how to adjust the low idle. When I throttle back to an idle, the engine loads up and dies. I am new to this kind of an engine so I am trying to figure out exactly where the adjustment is and how to do the adjustment. The model is an older one and the flight characteristics are such that it wants to snap pretty bad if it is not under power which is not a cool thing when you are trying to land deadstick.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

T.

On the side of the carb, opposite the needle valve (in the center of the throttle control) is a small set screw. Turn it clockwise to lean, and CCW to richen,

Also, if you can shift some weight forward, or add nose weight, she won't snap so badly.

As MF said, add some lead to the nose, keep the speed up to keep from snapping and lean the low end by turning the screw clockwise. Just do it a bit at a time, not a ton.
