RE: RC Surfer
One of my chargers blew up while Dan was over earlier this afternoon, the power supply is cooked.
Better get another, these LiPo's take a while to peak.

RE: RC Surfer
HI Guys,
well as you can see by jimi post went out and carved it up this afternoon i will say he is soft he wont come near my Carbon Fibre Kyosho Killer lol
Jimi check out this link it is where to get your new Battery Chargers from Cell Pro 4 is ll you need it does up to a 4s Battery
if you want to charge quicker get a bigger version and you can charge in half the time.
from what i have researched these are meant to be the one of the best on the market.
Just remember you need a separate power supply for them

RE: RC Surfer
Can anyone help me out? I just bought a used rc surfer. The range is poor and I would like to boost it somehow. There is no external antenna. Can I add one? My controller is a trigger style if this helps. Obviously I am new to the rc scene. I had a rc wing/plane that I built but it was stolen two years ago.

RE: RC Surfer
Ipaula,
Welcome to RC Surfing, the most fun and challenging hobby ever invented.
Isyour Surfer a Kyosho or a leaky NQD copy?
You will need a good radio system and at very least a short antenna.
What brand / model radio has come with your surfer?
I am using Hobby King 2.4Gh radio and have a short 1 1/2 inch antenna.
This radio is great and they are cheap andthe receivers are tiny which is cool because there aint much room in an RC Surfboard.
With one of these you can send your surfer that far out you cant tell which way it is going anymore.
Your board should have a hole on top of the deck for an antenna, is that filled in?
If you can, post a few pics of your board inside and out so we can see exactly what you have.
Good luck.
Danburger,
I am probably gonna go to the southside today because I don't think there will be enough swell for "Stockfence" .
I will check "Stockies" first and then probably head to "Back Beach" or possibly "Greenough".
I will be trying to get Bob involved again if I can.
But I know you probably won't be able to go today so I will get plenty of waves for you to bro.
Sea ya.

Maui,
Fun video guys, that is a cool little spot!
Dan,
Ya didn't miss much today.
"Stockies" was not breaking this morning so I went for a drive around the point.
Back Beach had cross-shore wind, too much south in it and is very weedy, aweful and messy.
I took a drive around the point and got back to "Stockies", Bob was there.
We decided to drive up to "Drummonds Point" and ended up sending the Dude out to " Drummonds Bay".
A pretty gnarly reef 10 mins north of my place.
Plenty of swell hitting there and the high tide made it not quite as gnarly as usual.
It was a bit messy but we did get a few pics.
This was the first time we have sent a Dude out there and I dare say we will be doing it again on a better day.
Only ran 1 pack and decided to give it a miss .
I am thinking, "Stockies" could have a small wave this afternoon on the lower tide, so if the wind holds off there could be a few little peelers there, I hope.
I am gonna go for a look at 3:00pm, see ya there bro, I'll let Bob know in case he can swing by for a look.
Pics from today should come through soon.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
A Word Of Warning.
Never ever, ever go RC Surfing with Iceman.
This guy is crazy, he deliberately tries to jump off waves and land on your little Dude.
He has absolutely no surf etiquette and does not understand that the guy on the inside has right of way.
Man, this guy is a danger to all Kyosho RC Shredders.
He drops in on ya and then cuts back and tries to ram ya.
But seriously, his boardis fast and shredding.
We went to "Stockfence" and surfed perfect little peeling 1 footers for about 2 hours right upuntil sunset.
Tons of peoplepulled up and camedown to say g'day and watch the little Dudes ripping it up.
Even though it was only small surf it was a great fun session.
Dan got quite a bit of water in his hull on the first pack but after regreasing the tube he was right after that.
Kyosho went perfectly again and is getting good long runtimes.
Hope we find more waves tomorrow.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
Itsfishi,
The rudder I made for my last NQD board was killer.
I made it like this.
I got a standard 4mm Kyosho shaft with drive dog still threaded on.
Cut off the plastic shaft of the NQD rudder and made the hole just big enough so the threaded end of the steel (where the prop nut attaches) would fit through the base of the rudder.
Heated up the drive dog with a lighter and melted the drive dog studs into the thick base of the plastic rudder shaft.
Try to be sure to getthe rudder to sit aslevel as possible.
Then get a wide washer and a small washer and put them on the bottom of the rudder over the thread and screw on a prop nut.
Cut off excess thread.
I then cut the shaft to size and used a small metal washer and a rubber deck bolt washer on top and bottom as seal and bearing and a 4mm rudder arm cut to size.
I used a piece of Kyosho stuffing tube over the shaft to make a nice smooth fit, it actually came out the top and bottom of the hull to the outside of the rubber washers, just beneath the metal washers.
BUT, the OD of the Kyosho stuffing tube is smaller than the hole in the NQD so I used a piece of aluminium tubing as a spacer.
This made an amazing difference in the smoothness and reliability of my rudder.
The Kyosho Lisa still has the stock rudder at the moment and I don't like it as much as my modified NQD one.
But the kyosho hole is different and I have to adapt the fitting procedure a little.
The basic construction method should be the same.
Just have not got around to it yet as I have been surfing the board twice a day.
Hope that helps
"Surfcurls" can supply the Kyosho shaft with tube, drive dog and nut, then you just need a few washers and a 4mm arm.
Good Luck.

RE: RC Surfer
Put on a more normal note
I did get a little water in the Beast today the stuffing box is having trouble keeping the Grease in it i have to find a fix for this before i try and crash into the Kyosho again
I did notice when i got it home today that the Sleeve Bearing was flogged out don't know how that happened but will need fixing.
Also i need to Glue in the extra Lead Under the Motor and servo so its time to do some striping of the Beast
It be weighing in at a small 2.5Kg when it is all done.
And on a positive Note i will be ordering some 4S Batterys for the beast because i can never have to much speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to Crash in to Jimi Board and get away Quick lol

RE: RC Surfer
Hey JP, Here are the photos of my RC surfer. Yes, There is an old hole in the deck. Two actually. One was a power button (removed). I was not sure how to add the antenna, where to get one, where to plug it in, and can I put in inside the surfer girl to protect it?
I just changed out the ESC since the old one was corroded to the max and died. The connections on the motor seem to be giving me grief. I have problems with it loosing power after a smash in the surf. I tap the topdeck and its good to go again. The batteries (got three of them) all seem to be on thier way out. Splitting open and one just drove the charger crazy so I think its done.
Let me know what you think. I bought this used and it seems to have some issues but I am sure I can work em out.

RE: RC Surfer
Ipaula,
That is a "Surfcurls" XT Pro modified NQD that John Pontrelli (JP) either made himself or sold a kit to the previous owner.
It just has a different radio and rudder, you may not even need an antenna, but i'd say a short antenna might help improve the range.
If the bullet connectors on the motor are coming loose just cut some strips of electrical tap and stick over the motor/ESC connections to stop them coming loose until you can get some new 3.5mm bullets from ebay.
Yeah you should be able to get that thing surfing quite well.
Get some new batteries and keep an eye open for any leaks that need attention. (especially in the rudder hatch)
That is an NQD (Not Quite Dry) Lol.
Good luck with that, read thisblog like a bible, you will find many tips and ideas that have been used to make boards like that go off.
You should be shredding in no time.
Sea ya.

Look around the side of the receiver case at the split line for a small hole where an antenna could have been. If you see no hole them it’s a toy receiver and you need to replace it with a good system.
If there is a hole, take the Rx apart and solder a new antenna on to the board. Smallest wire you have about 12” long, not a perfect factory match, but will work beater than what you have now.
But I would get a new one. If you have corrosion inside the surf board, what’s inside that receiver?
