RE: RC Surfer
Iceman,
Give me a call tomorrow evening.
I just spent 4 hours rebuilding my Kyosho.
It is ready for a test run.
BIG SWELL on the way.
Thursday morning should be waves at the groyne opposite the caravan park.
It was breaking today but only small and a bit sloppy.
Should be classic fun so get your Dude ready.
I am planning on hitting it at 8:00am.
Let me know if your keen.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
G'day Crewski,
Got a message from Barrels today concerning my cable issue.
He thinks my motor mount was probably flexing a little when getting hammered and causing the cable to hit the edge of the tube.
I think that could have been the problem.
I have also asked him if he uses LiPo in his Kyosho and how he gets around the metal bracket when modifying to fit bigger LiPo packs.
For those on here with Original Kyosho Dudes who want to fit LiPo I will post any tips he gives us.
Packs are charging now so I should get a test run tomorrow morning.
Looks like Bob is going to Carnarvon for work so unlikely to get any pics, bummer.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
Dan,
Swell is predicted to be 8 foot tomorrow and windshouldbe SW.
"Pages" will only be small but should be wrapping around the groyne and producing PERFECT1 - 2 foot miniature point style lefts.
If the wind has enough S in it it will be just likemy avatar pic.
The takeoff is about 2m from the end of the groyne and really sucksup and barrels and then walls up right in to and along the beach.
I will be getting there 7:30 - 7:45so see you there.
This is a great testing spot and also we shouldget light offshore onFriday so if yourDude can surf well we should hit "Stockies" on Friday morning.
That should be at least 3 foot+ on Friday
Don't be late.
Check it out,
Miniature Perfection!!!

RE: RC Surfer
Dan Iceburger,
Yeah, fingers crossed mate.
If you get a few waves like that for your first ever RC Surf you will be absolutely blown away.
Looks like I am all set for the morning bro.
I just jumped in the tub with my Kyosho Lisa and did seal test.
Self righting beautifully and drizabone after 20 min of dunking at submerging.
RTR she weighs in at approx. 1980g.
Including 2S pack and NiMh simulator ballast and 28g up front.
No extra ballast under the motor (No room as motor sits a little lower than in the NQD)
No Ballast added to hull. (Does not need any)
CG is perfect ataround 15 1/2" right behind the Dudes front ankle.
Standard Kyosho rudder.
Sebski flexiend shaft in a standard Kyosho tube and a 4 screw coupler and 32mm threaded prop
Hitech HS 635 HB Servo
"Surfcurls" Purple 3000kv motor
Seaking 60a ESC
2.4Gh radio
Carbon reinforced Dude (with yellow wetsuit)
This is a really nice board.
Hope it surfs as well as my NQD did.
Man, I am amped up, 11 hoursuntil jam time.
Sea ya there Dan.

Hey Crew,
It's 7:15am and I can hear the swell from my place 2 1/2km away.
No a breath of wind.
I hope "Pages" is firing.
Otherwise we might have to go to "St Georges" or maybe "Stockies"
I have my 6'0" and steamer on standby if it all goes pear shaped and my Dude starts heading for the Abrolhos Is.
Should be a lot of fun with Iceman having his first surf today.
Shame Bob can't be there to catch all the carving.
Better gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooo.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
Jimi's Surf Report,
Oh well, all that hype for nothing.
Tide was extremely high and "Pages" was flooded right over the top of the beach where we usually park.
So we went to "Stockfence" and had a test run.
Waves were prettyaverage quality and far from what I had hoped, need a nice offshore to tidy it up.
Anyway, Dan's Icebreaker hit the surf and his stub came unstuck from his cable after a couple of minutes and he had to swim and rescue but it was just off the beach.
He did do one sick jump that had a couple of oldies on their morning walk hooting.
The Kyosho ran very well and surfed good considering the wave condition.
Run time must have been 15 minutes and board was plenty fast enough for surfing although Dan's board is probably twice as fast.
Then a big dark front moved right over us and started raining lightly but showed no sign off clearing up so we packed up and will probably try again tomorrow.
Hopefully it will be more suitable conditions but the tide will be very high again.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
Anyone know where to get strong servo tape online.
The Kyosho came with some great black tape that really works well but I don't know where to get it.

RE: RC Surfer
You Can Use 1 Drop Of CA Glue.
Just Apply 1 DROP to a corner of the servo, that way you can easily pull
the servo out without hurting the plastic landing of the hull.
If you are looking to set a servo in an original Kyosho
that has metal brackets for the deck lid. Just apply
the ca glue drop onto the Stainless Bracket. and replacement
wont hurt a thing ...
Use a 1/2 drop is even better. That servo will stick better than any tape.

Hot glue works great and believe it or not holds very well use as much as ya like and will pry out fairly easy with no damage also use it to go around seals onservo at same time to help waterproof it

Jimi,
I really like the Novak ESC/servo tape its clear and kind of gooey but holds like mad. It has red covering.
It comes in 10 or 100 packs.

RE: RC Surfer
Hey RC Shred Crew,
Yeoooowwwww.
Dan and I got some great waves today at "Stockfence".
2 to 3 foot and offshore. I give it 7 out of 10 as far as "Stockies" goes.
We both got some nice set waves from about 100m out and no rescues today.
Plenty of interest from innocent bystanders as usual.
Kyosho ran flawlessly and I think run times are closer to 20 mins, but I need to check. (Don't wear a watch)
Dan had a few minor teething probs buthis model issurfing quite well.
He did bend his brass rudder when he got slammed in the shorie.
He also has a problem with the board twisting to one side.
I reckon it is because he has everything central in the board and the prop is twisting the board to one side under power.
The NQD and to a lesser extent the Kyosho lean slightly to one side when floating and I think that compensates for the rotating twist of the prop torque.
Surf will be even better tomorrow, as the offshore wind tidies it up even more, I hope Dan is allowed to go for another Jam.
That was soooooo sick and really great fun to have someone else to kill waves with.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
na mate, but i think ill have a hack in the morning. im down to only one 4 cell pack and it just aint got much oomph on its own (3000mah 20c) compared to havin 2 of em in there . it also throws the balance way to the back. its good on the smaller waves trying floaters n airs but the its been setup with the position of the extra balast on the keel (towards the backend) to have that extra batt in the front. i get maybe 11 to 12 mins out of it only. also got a 3000mah 3s 40c that i have been using but that only gives me about 9 mins. pretty broke at the moment so gotta wait on gettin some more batts.
might try using 2 5000mah 3s batts and see how that goes compared to the 2 3000mah 4s ,just cant fit any bigger 4s in there.
also still playing around with the shape of the extendo tail and now im using diff batt setup it changes that too.
i cant wait till its all setup sweet that i just dont want to change anything anymore.
in the future i can see maybe havin a big wave setup and a small wave setup, rather than just one thing for all occasions.
hope you get a great surf tomoz
good to here OO's board is goin good
later

Hey Jimi,
Got into town yesterday... bumped intoDan already on the way home from work as he was shredding it up at stockies.
But yeah the surf is looking alright, but my surfer is out of action at the moment asI gotta realign the shaft as it keeps jamming up.
Might have to get the real board out.

RE: RC Surfer
G'day from W. A. - Alright all you Dudes,
I just scored another NIB Kyosho RC Surfer Dude.
So now I have 1 Kyosho Lisa board with Original Dude up and shredding,
I also have 2 Original RC Surfer kits and 10spare Original Dudes and 2 "Surfcurls" replacement Dudes, allstashed for the future.
Oh yeah and 1 NQD half made and 1 Venom half made.
Bob is back from Carnarvon so I hope he swings by "Stockies" at around 7:30am.
Swell is dropping so we may have to go elsewhere but it will be OFFSHORE again, YEOOOOWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did a few extra little mods to the Kyosho Lisa this evening too.
I have been thinking, it is so nice to have a board up and running that stays dry without all the extra attention that the NQD requires to stop all those nasty leaks.
I think I might try towean offthe fakesand eventually just run Kyosho but ya never know and I still have two fakies to finish buildingand destroying.
Bob and I are just gettin' started but we syre had a ripper 1st year.
One thing is certain, Jimi Findrix will be rambling on crazy and posting cool pics on this old blog for a very long time to come.
Blah, blah, blahdy bloody blah.
Sea ya all way down the line.

RE: RC Surfer
Hey Danburg,
Went down "Stockfence" at 8am and ran 3 packs.
Bob came down a took a few shots, if he got anything good I will post later when he flicks 'em through.
Only small with a few decent sets and lulls in between.
Water was smooth as with the light offshore wind and as usual, acouple of filthy babes stopped by to say how cool JIMI is.
I told Bob to start takin' pics of them too, LOL.
Well, I guess you are all surfed out after the last 2 days eh, either that or, Taryn said "NOT TODAY"
Pity you didn't get down there, we could have got some pics of the "Ice Machine" tearing it up.
Started to rain after 3 packs so we left just before 10am.
I have started making one of my JIMI-Rudders with the steel shaft because the Kyosho plastic rudder gets knocked out on crazy airs just like the NQD ones do.
Other than the rudder getting twisted out of alignment we had no probs and she is staying nice and dry.
I also epoxied 2 carbon rods under the deck last night because I cut out the bracing through the back end of the deck for clearance and I wanted to make sure the deck does not flex.
I also found some little black water tube holders at Bunnings and glued them in because the Kyosho Lisa does not have them like the NQD's do.
Oh yeah, Salty Pirate stopped by to say G'day, I told him to keep in touch and I will have a look at his propshaft and see if I can help him get it running.
Maui John,
Thanks for the nice comments mate and yes it would be so cool to get Dan and Salty down there running at one of our photo sessions.
Hope you are getting plenty of fun RC Surfs guys.
Sea ya when the new pics come through.

RE: RC Surfer
Alright Crew!!!
Dan and I just got another hour and a half at "Stockfence".
Glassy afternoon light offshore and just enough 2 foot sets to make it sick.
At one stage we had a crowd gathering behind us, hooting on the bigger sets.
Tide had dropped heaps and it was starting to get a bit more sucky on the reef.
Hell fun, no breakdowns.
Dan pulled off a sicko 360 and was really starting to put it all together, hookin' into the peaks and charging down the line and he did some great cutties too.
The extra lead we put under his motor seems to have helped stabilize the board a bit but I think he needs another 50g.
RC Surfing IS Awesome, **** I Love My Kyosho.
Sea ya.
