Hugh's early Saturday short road trip to West Side nearer to where Jock & MJ live.

DOM - Your BroSurfer sure can take a good thrashing in the last video.
Be careful - showing what good waves you have in the Cape - we may ALL decide to move over there!

Jock, John, Hugh,
Your video makes me homesick! I am ready for some Island time.  Nice corkscrew Jock.  Hugh did you get any good Gopro footage form the video session?   John your board leaves a huge spray, it must be the way you  ride the pocket. Some of the most realistic surfing yet!  Some of the other videos flooding the Forum just look like motor boating. Great job showing us all how it should be done!

G'day All,
They're great pix an vids been posted up i love em!! Makes me jealous...an keeps the stoke alive...YEEEW...Ooh well getting closer sloooowly
Well i finally got to town for some glassing supplies and have got a little done..sorry no pix of yet
I still need to get some parts so i'm looking for some love from the community, i need some advice on prop size and shaft etc??
The motor has a 5mm output shaft and i like the idea of a compression coupler to flex (easy maint), I'm thinking around 32-35mm prop on a flex/semi flex set up?? What i'm not sure of is prop end size and available props to suit?? This seems to be the biggest hurdle ATM, matching props to shaft size, So all advice greatly appreciated :-)
I kind of need to know this before i finish off the pod as it's final size/shape will depend on what is required

Basically it's 32" x 8 1/2" board running a turnigy XK3665-B-2300kv on 4s

Cheers Nigel

Dread...That is the same motor I was using before I bumped up to 5S...

This coupler works great http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=etti-a010

Flex shaft .150 stepped down to 1/8 http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...?prod=ose-1075

prop Octura x432 works real good http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...?prod=oct-x432

Careful when you sharpen it..dust is not so good for you...

I really liked that setup...still use it in my 4S boards.

sounds like your making progress,, on my flex clable( 150.) it has a step down from 3/16 s to 1/8 in. at the end but you can use 3/16 s all the way

through , but you must have a 3/16 s dog drive and a new nut on the back ,, here are some links

Dread.....

As MJ suggested, I'm moving to all 3/16" flex cables as well. Much larger selection of props in the 3/16" shaft size.
I'm also having great success with the Carbon Filled Props.......
Because they are light weight and do not require sharpening/balancing they seem to be less damaging to the stuffing box sleve bearing as well.
But.......... If I am going to be surfing with MJ or Kite........... I do slip on my trusty sharpened/lightened/balanced Grim Reaper 455 bad boy to try and keep up with the 5S stuff.

As for batteries and charging..........

I found this complete kit on the Wal-Mart website for just two payments of $9.95 + shipping and handling.
But wait, there's more........ Upgrade to 5S for just $2,000
Upgrade includes everything you see + a Build Request Form from Maui********.
Disclamer...... Subject to backlog delays of up to 6 Years.

Well, there has been some serious work go down since my last visit to this thread, both from you guys and myself.

With work in Africa, the shaping of my first RC surfer and an interstate relocation things were going well...that was until the shed with all my belonging in storage while waiting for my new house to be finished burnt to the ground. Lost every thing apart from a few clothes...200k worth, 25k in RC alone. Insurance covers most, still waiting on that.

The only piece of RC gear to survive was the NQD Lisa I modded way back, don't know how because everything else around it burnt. Amazing what fire doesn't touch in the miidst of the mayhem.

I'llbe having another go at shaping a surfer, just have to replace all my shaping gear first, or if that is too difficult in the short term I may look at buying a nice RTR surfer.

btw having only an nqd to survive is maybe a message from the twisted godssowhen all the tools and stuff are replaced recomend you build your own again... withany extra info you may learn from the quick fix....

G'day Fellas,
 Thanks heaps for the tips.
I went with Tom's recommendations due to the fact that i couldn't find any 32mm (carbon filled) props in the 3/16 shaft size (started at 40mm) and  i figured if i'm cutting,i may as well just balance etc etc and i can always upgrade at a later date if i find some. But for now this will get the ball rolling, keeping the momentum.

Wow tripper that's horrid, sorry to hear about the inferno, that's just absolutely devastating. All the best with rebuilding your life

Cheers Nigel
