Default What parts do I need to get this car running?

Hey guys, someone was giving a car away and I've always been intersted in getting into RC, but never had enough money to fully invest. Today was my lucky day, someone in my building was giving the car away, but I know little about the car and what it needs to get up and running. Can you guys help me please? The brand marking say that it's manufactured by HPIRacing. From the pictures, what parts are missing? Thanks guys!

Wow, you got lucky. That guys was either really nice or really dumb! From the pictures it appears that you have all of the mechanical parts (or at least all of the big things) but you do need electronics (except servo, looks like you already got it), obviously. It has a brushed motor in it, which could likely be rebuilt, but I'd just sell it (worth probably like 10 bucks) or chunk it and get yourself a brushless system. A brushless system will last much longer and provide much more power. If you're low on cash, get a HobbyWing combo (link below). It should get the car up to around 30-40mph depending on gearing and battery choice. I assume that you don't have a charger or battery yet? I would without doubt go lipo. I would recommend the one linked below and also the charger linked below. Both are considered "budget" choices, but I own both and they will work just as good for what you need them for as the more expensive stuff. BTW, I believe what you have there is an HPI RS4 Electric.

Thanks for the quick response Hunting. I don't really have a whole lot of cash to get this up and running. I still need a radio, battery, charger, and all the missing components. From what I've read and seen online, it looks like I'm missing a speed controller, receiver, and motor, and body, clearly. Are there any other parts that I'm overlooking?

I don't think so. I seem to have forgotten all about the tx/rx. Here is a decent one that will give you all the range you want and no interference: http://www.hobbypartz.com/fs-g2-24ghz-radio.html

looks like an old RS4 pro with a lot of upgrades

Might be able to ebay it for a nice penny as is and get a modern RC that parts would be easy to come by.
Only say that cause I remember when I rebuilt an old RS4 nitro the pain it was locating things(some parts took weeks of looking).

All it needs is an ESC and Radio/Transmitter + battery/charger. It already has a motor and servo. Body isn't necessary but you can choose a car. You could get it running for under/around $50 if you want to do it for cheap. I am wondering though - are you interested in on-road or off-road?

I'm gonna be mostly on rough pavement and gravel, smooth pavement time to time.

gravel is a no no with a belt one pebble will snap it
if its not on cleaned smooth pavement(with no gravel at all) I wouldn't run it personally.
for gravel, and rough surfaces a shaft drive would work best

How about I trade you for my DF03Ra. It's built to do that.

can you take a better pic of that motor? probably have to take it out first. from the little i can see, i think it may be a trinity midnight which was one of the best 27t's back in it's day. $10 is underselling it, you should be able to get 20 or 25 pretty easily if it's clean.
