Stupid Question
yeah thats the best way to find out stock speeds.
once you do all your upgrades you either
A- find a nice police officer witha radar gun
or ive heard someone using a pitching radar
b- do lots of math
taking into account distance/rpms/gearing/etc
id say hang out near the local dunkin donuts and when some fuzz pulls up fire the thing up and i sure they will inquire about it and you can ask them to clock it.

Stupid Question
youll need this for the formula...
primary ratio= SPUR GEAR divided by CLUTCH BELL
drive ratio= LARGE PULLY/GEAR- divided by- SMALL PULLY/GEAR
then.... finial drive ratio= PRIMARY RATIO -divided by- DRIVE TRAIN RATIO
...remember your finial drive ratio....
ESTIMATED TOP SPEED= ENGINE RPM- divide by -FININAL DRIVE RATIO- multiplyed by -TIRE DIAMATER- divided by- 336.135
USE MAX ENGINE RPM so you know what it would be at full throttle
ENJOI hope it goes FFFAAASSSTTT!!!

I have no idea how fast the RTR is, I've never seen one run. I have no idea how fast my SS is either, for that matter! I learned not to judge by "well it looks like about XXmph to me" because you are nearly always wrong. I'm not terribly worried about top speed, to be honest. I'm far more interested in throttle response, braking, steering, and other things that are actually helpful on the track. Top speed is really just for going "hey! look how fast this thing is!" which is fun, but isn't going to make me any faster around a touring course. Ok, I do have to admit, one of these days I would like to smoke that NTC3, but until I buy a $300 engine, thats probably not going to happen.

Stupid Question
Yeah, I wasn't correcting you or anything, just stating it
I got a type SS too (only because it was a kit really) except it never really went past 43 or so (I don't think) and then I stripped the cooling head where the glow-plug goes in so I was without RC for a few weeks then I got a fantom which hasn't been runnin to great either Although I think I have found the problem. If you wanna annoy your friend the picco .15 isn't that expensive just 160 dollars. I think a 'working' fantom could actually beat a picco, but I haven't seen a picco run so I'm not sure about that.

yeah, I think he paid even less than that. I've seen many a .15 "racing" engine, and his just flat HAULS. I'm not sure what the deal is with his engine, but its incredibly fast, and it runs around 220 F. Besides, I would buy a Novarossi just to be sure that I can smoke him, heh.

Stupid Question
Well I tried that Dunkin Dounuts thing, Found two cop cars four cops.....Pulled up i didn't say a word. Got out of my car and pulled My rc-10 out of the trunk. Barney Fife walks over and ask me "what are you planning to do with that" I told him "Actually I saw you guys hanging out in front of this donut establishment and was wondering if one of you fine officers would clock my car."
I said "I'll even throw in a couple of Big Bear Claws for your trouble." So we sat around and B.S.'d awhile but I could not get one of them to do it! Maybe they were worried that someone might see them...I don't know anyway the Cop trick didn't work and the Bribe with the Donuts was wrong cause they get them for free anyhow!
Course they were city cops, maybe I need to find acounty sherriff!

Stupid Question
I have two systems. One is the orion and an older system called lapboy made by Kyosho. The nice thing about the Kyosho is that it comes with a printer and its all operates on a 9V battery.
The nice thing about having your own lap counter is that you don't have to go to the track. You can setup a speed trap in a basketball court and use it to acquire your time.
I use when adjusting my centax clutch at the park or when dialing my setup at the track.

The orion goes for about $120 used. The lapboy sold for higher $$ back then but sometimes you can find one at around $65. Interested in the lapboy?

Yeah, I might be. I found a few links mentioning a price of about $40. Does that mean though, that each car much have one of these, and that I need to put a 9V on board the car?
what does the orion do that the lapboy doesn't?

Stupid Question
I can do better than $40. PM or email me for additional question. [email protected]
Yes, each car must have a unit. Not intended for racing.
Here are (from memory) the differences:
Orion
- 60 laps memory
- can buy additional transponder
- can buy tripod for the receiving unit
- can buy PC link to store lap times
- transponder plugs into receiver or through y-harness
- newer technology
Lapboy
- 20 laps (I believe)
- uses 9V battery in the car
- comes with a printer. uses printing calculator paper found at any office supply (i.e. office depot)
- older technology than Orion
