JP needs help! AGAIN!
Gotta few questions for you guys:
1) Can anyone tell me where is the cheapest place to get a slide carb for my SH18? I need a slide carb for my XTM18. Actually I would like to have 2 slide carbs for these 18's.
2) I am also looking for a used SH18 cooling head. I prefer one that is scratched all to you know where and is ugly looking. I will machine it down to put on my nitro prostock car. I need a short head. And I don't want to spend $24 on a new head and then cut it 3/4's of the way down.
3) Does Himoto carry HSN & LSN o-rings for the SH18 or XTM18?
I need some for my SH12 pro engine. And nobody carries anything for the SH12 anymore.
I found some for the XTM18 on HobbyPeople, but they were out of stock.

RE: JP needs help!
I just looked through all my spare motors all I have is a cen 15 and infinity 18 cooling head the bolt pattern is the same as the sh18 but won't help ya the base is different , as for the carbs I'd wait for eddie to respond. For the gaskets for the needles goto an automotive store and buy a O ring kit they aren't that much but take the rings with you so you make sure you get the right kit.

RE: JP needs help!
I was looking on ebay and found a Nova Aluminum head for the XTM18. It looks very sharp, and would add more bling to my MXT-2S . If I can't find a used head, I may end up getting one of those Nova heads and slapped that on my SH18 and cut down the black SH18 head.

RE: JP needs help!
I found some slide carbs for the SH12 for $29 new. They are a direct fit. Me thinks the only difference in the SH12 and SH18 is the bore and stroke. I think the carb is the exact same(venturi size that is). I will get out my SH18 slide and compare the openings with the SH12 rotary.
I went ahead and ordered 2 from Hobby People. Thanks guys for your help.
Now I just gotta find out what to do about the head. I may end up biting the bullet and buy that nova rc head.

I took the Old O-Rings to my Local Hobby Store and Sweet Talked em a Bit......
Got em to look through their inventory of O.S. o-rings and found some that would work for me........
The Moral of the Story is that you need to have a good relationship with the folks at the LHS and Support them by Purchasing as much stuff from them as you Can....If they Know you on by Sight,,,,,they will probably go out of their way to Help you out!

RE: JP needs help!
OK, another problem I had today:
After chasing my rubber do-nut for my starter all around the frik'n yard, I got my drag truck to start. I have noticed on the LSN, it is ONLY 1/2 turn from fully closed. And I think my HSN is about 1.5 to 2 turns from fully closed. If I open them up any more the engine floods. I thought the LSN needs to be flush with the collar but that is like 3-4 turns out.
It took me forever in a day to get it fired up because of this. Is this normal? The slide carbs are brand new. The temp only got up to 205*f, but was a pain to start.
Anyone have a clue? I have not sealed up the engine just yet. I don't remember where the LSN needle is on my Infinity 18, but it runs like a beast.
Eddie, do you have any of these bodies in stock?
10321 1/10 truck body
Thanks bro.

RE: JP needs help! AGAIN!
If your running at those temps with those settings then i am sure your ok, you have smoke coming out?
I will double check about the body and let you know, I am sure we do.

That LSN setting seems very Strange to me.....
But, if you are running at 205 degrees, then it is Obviously not Lean and it sort of runs against the argument of an Air Leak.
Perhaps the Carb you are using is not suited to That Engine?

I wonder if it is this custom pipe that is causing this problem. Too much pressure going to fuel cell? Next time I fire it up, I will pull the pressure line from the pipe and see if she revs up for being lean.

The LSN is the only difference and thats about 3 bucks which would make your carburetor about $32.00

Well then you should make the application known in which case the ratical adjustments can be from presure or poorly formed parts, Some applications run a lot better if they have good back pressure which in your case would seem to be the oppisite. (the fuel going through the carb having to be restricted) What Eddie said is perfectly true, if your temps are down and it runs well then don't worry about it. The settings are only rules of thumb and nothing is written in stone

RE: JP needs help! AGAIN!
Just an update on my head situation. Instead of cutting down a perfectly good head, I decided to make a one piece head out of 6061 aluminum. I did raise the compression just a tad. I am still using the 2 shims also. I just lowered the glowplug .015" farther down inside the cylinder.
How does one know if the compression is too high? Will it run awkward? Not hold a tune? Or eat glowplugs?
