RE: Lunchboxer's TXT-1 project...
the super duty is one of the best. you won't be dissapointed. Only other good esc in the range is the mamba esc, which might be a better choice if u decide to go brushless later on.
4ws helps a lot with the turning radius but using it at high speeds gets really unstable. I think LBs still using those 1/5 scale s3306s for steering
I don't actually own a txt but i remember that dual s600s on 14 cells ripped LBs TXT apart. so watch out for that

RE: Lunchboxer's TXT-1 project...
Thanks for the reply Mindwreck. The Novak seems to be the route I will go. I do not think I will go too nuts down the road with motors so it should suit me fine.
I was concerned with the control of the truck with 4WS I guess I'll go 2 wheel first and see how it goes.
Thanks again.

Mindwreck pretty much answered it all for me already.. I think for dual motor application, SuperDuty XR is the only game in town.. I wouldn't try the Mamba Max ESC for this purpose, but you can try, though, and let us know!!
It can handle 2 mod motors.. although I'd say for a TXT, 2 big-can motor (550-sized) would be the better choice... I run the S-600s, and they are basically 550 size motor w/ 19T.. they put out pretty good torque at high voltage..
But if you are building a race truck type, i.e., you only want to run single pack for lighter weight, then dual 540 mod-motor would be the way to go..
Ballbearing will be good to build into the car during the build.. if you want to spend some $$$, those aluminum axle holder would be nice to have... other than that, you can always put the stuff in later..
I run the S3306, the large scale servo.. they are strong and very fast.. I think PsychoTik just put those in on his too.. but I am sure if you want to spend the $$$, you can put a normal 1/10th scale digital servo that put out a lot of torque as well and weight less.. but to me, TXT is not really a race truck, so weight is not much of a concern for me.. so..
Good luck!! Be sure to post your progress here to keep us posted!!

Hey Lunch or any other TXT owners I have some questions for you. I am getting ready to put one of these together and scanned over this enormous thread but have a few questions.
I like the Novak Super Duty XR, is that the esc you would recommend for the rig? Will this esc be good for future motor upgrades (nothing to insane)? Is there something better in the price range?
Did you go with 4 wheel steering or is 2 wheel enough and more reliable? What servo do you reccommend for the steering either way?
Any upgrades you recommend that are must haves that should be incorporated into the build?
Any little things I should watch out for while in the build?
I have always wanted to build the TXT and now that the F-350 is done, I need something to trounce around with.

Regarding 4WS vs. 2WS.. I run 4WS, BUT, I can switch the rear steering on and off on the fly w/ my radio.. (3-channel) So I got the best of both worlds..

RE: Lunchboxer's TXT-1 project...
Thanks for the response LB. My TXT will be for fun and not racing so I may go with the large scale servos and dual packs as well.
If they can handle what I do to them in 1/5th scales I am sure they will hold up here.
I like the 3 channel idea and may have to look into doing that for the steering.
Thanks for the insight and for the topic, it has some great info in it.

Sounds good man!! Yeah, you can take a look at this thread for what I have done to my TXT! But feel free to post away if you got anything you want to discuss about TXT here!!

RE: Lunchboxer's TXT-1 project...
I just thought, I've heard a few people here say they can't run 4WS (i think LB said that somewhere) with just a y harness to both servos; they would jsut steer in the same direction. I have never had that problem, oddly. But I bet now that when I get my TXT up and running again, when I hook up the servos I'll be jinxed and it will never work that way...

RE: Lunchboxer's TXT-1 project...
It depends on the brand of radio... some has a reversing-Y, some has the same direction.. and obviously, it depends on the servo setup on the car as well...
It is still best to use a 3-ch radio and do programmable mix, then you can dial in different EPA for both front and rear...

I agree, TXT racing is just not that popular in the USA.
Like if you had a TXT, you could race against Mod-Clod(s), Modded E-maxx(s), Modded E-Savage(s),and Modded Twin Forces(s).
Man, that would be so much fun, if it could be done in an actual ROAR race or something similar.

RE: Lunchboxer's TXT-1 project...
Depends on what kind of course.. for a typical race course, I'd say the independently suspended MTs (E-Savage, E-Maxx, etc.) would be faster..
But I like the fact that TXT is the old school monster truck.. straight axle, shaft drive, monster crushing toruqe!! LOL!!

RE: Lunchboxer's TXT-1 project...
A few more pics of my TXT-1.
As I have not decided what I should run it in.[&:]
So it is a true rolling chassis for now.
Many people have done like you lunchboxer and just run a Novak Super Duty XR in it.
I may do that and pop in a couple 540 size 17T mod motors.
You can run a single battery and dual motors using the Super Duty right?
When I first bought my TXT-1 about 2 or so years ago I ran a JR XR3i radio in it.
Pretty good radio as you can change alot of servo functions a stock radio just cannot do.[>:]

Yeah, for single pack, the SuperDuty has no motor limit on dual motors, I believe...
Yeah, you need to get your TXT running, man!! I don't want to be the only one running a TXT, ha!!
