If it's the new Firestorm with the 4800, 3s with 19t shouldn't be getting to 190F. I run 19/87 on 3s in my 4800 storm and the ESC has never been over 150F...and that's off road. On road it only got to 130ish.
I don't think HPI will charge you shipping if it's a warranty thing. They may only get you to send in the ESC and motor, or it might even go through castle. I understand that it's annoying, but if it's broken it's broken.

Just had a crash today, and ended up slamming front first into a wall at about 40mph.
My bulkhead needs replacing, and there also appears to be some parts missing from around the servo mechanism area.
Please would someone be so kind as to post an image of where the steering posts and other associated parts go please?
I have the exploded diagram, but the servo area is very unclear to me.

Ahh, thats what I dont want to do. I only have a few more weeks left of summer vacation, and by the time I get my truck back, its going to be school time meaning I just go to school then go to work, zero play time.
I seem to have bad luck with brushless set ups, I also have an RC18T2 thatI had hit 230F(!!!)on the motor and ESC. Thankfully its alright, and runs just fine after I cooled it down. Idont understand, could it be something Im doing?I run on a combination of concrete and deadgrass/dirt. I can post pictures if that would help anyone.
I also checked my thermometer against others, and its very accurate, theres no way it could be off by more than a few degrees.

I've been in this hobby since 2004, then took a few year break 2006-2010, and I've never had such a streak of bad luck before. Ijust dont want to burn up my expensive electronics :\

Thanks. What does gear down mean again?I keep forgetting, would it mean buy a pinion with more or less teeth? A spur with more or less teeth?

The exploded diagram is pitiful around this section of the assembly.

This thread even though its for the blitz, Has some great info and pics done by the guy who design the storm/blitz. He has quick jump links but give the whole thread a read.

I like those locks. Thats a great thread, I got a lot of info from it.
I'm driving normally these days and not trying to run temps high and its been 90+F and motor temps have not gone above 140. ESC temps are up to 115 and enough for the fan to come on sometimes. I think it comes on at 100 or 110.F. The 3800 is giving much lower temps in the blitz and is geared tall to compensate for the lower kv - I am liking the SCT motor a lot.

Sorry for the reply delay. Having pc and desktop issues. the rcshortcourse forum is where I've seen most of the bad steering post for the blitz, but I talked to a few who complained about the storms steering. Mine worked fine stock until a crash stripped the stock servo, now its got a hitec hi-torc 645? 654? lol the sticker came off it now and I can't tell what it is any more, and an alum. servo horn.
The front line assult tires are fine for racing, I ran them until they wore down, then switched to the proline version for racing.

I need to get a new spur gear, i stripped it with a 3S and a lot of speed runs :\
I noticed the pinion is metal, but the spur is plastic, any reason for that? Also, would it be a good idea to get a metal spur, or just get a few plastic ones?

you don't need a metal spur, and the plastic is a cheap give point... as far as new parts a few spurs are always good, and check your pinion it may've gotten dammaged or your mesh could've shifted especially if you're doing a lot of wheelies on the motor...

its made that way so its a break point. you can buy steel spurs, but then your gear meash is much more sensitive, and then you have to make sure your pinion and spur are the same hardness of metal. for example, if you put an aluminum spur with a titanium pinion, the pinion would simply grind the spur down since its a harder metal. you can do a spur gear upgrade, just make sure you know what your doing and be prepared to spend a few bucks.

Hey guys. Haven't posted here in ages. Been working on my EF for ages now. And think I finally have a setup that i'm in love with....for now. I'll have pics up soon as my phone decides to send them. But. Here's a break down.
Losi 8ight-T shocks (filled with 45 wt)
Losi light springs
Pro-Line Dirt Hawg tires
Scraped Ofna Ultra MBX-E wing and mount, attached onto the rear body mount.
Now, on order is a LRP 4.5T 550 Brushless and Mamba Max Pro.
Also, soon as I get it finished, is a custom aluminum chassis that me and my dad are gonna work up at the machine shop. It'll be one piece that includes the front bulkhead and rear extension. As well as a bigger motor protector piece to accomodate the 550 motor.
