Well last night I lunched a idler gear. We are half way home from Arizona and in a RV park on the Oregon Coast. Got the DT out to show our friends. It was a little slow with my paved oval track program, so I took it to the laptop and turned it up all the way. Came back out and on about the third pass it cleaned some teeth off the idler. Today I put in a spare and detuned it, tested it and put it away. Got to look for the medal idler. Part No?

Needs tires and body when I get home.

Chris

Sidewinder +4600.
Switch tires.

Do you have to run a little grease on the metal idler? Chris

Last night I actually broke a rim, one of the Losi stock rims with an HPI Geolander on it. Was driving along, bashing in the back yard, and suddenly the wheel goes flying. I thought that the nut had come off, but actually, the hub part of the wheel itself sheered off and the rest of the wheel and tire went airborne. haha

Yes I would grease the gears, metal on metal is not good without lubrication so the top gear and idler need lube

I super glued a rim back together when the hub broke out. Chris

Never let a newbie use your brushless truck. I let my friend and he ran into a cement wall at about 20mph. Destroyed the Kickplate, Bulkhead & Brace. It';s a good thing they are inexpensive to replace. I said, "easy on the steering and very easy on the throttle."

Is there any maintenance needed on the diff? The truck runs very fast and smooth, but there is a bit of a rattle coming from the rear.

Does anyone make a front bumper with a pivot and a shock absorber. I have a design in my head, but want to know if there would be a market for it.

Thanks,
Ian

The RPM bumper flexes alot but is not as cool. I run them on both my trucks. Got my $28 Zippy Lipos today... 4 of them, Wow, these have some punch. Heard good and bad bout these but all charged and are balanced. I might buy more and be able to run my truck while I drink a whole 12 pack, Nice.

One of my RPM bumpers is a year and a half old still going. I have a rear bumper from T-Bone (i think) and they warrantee it if you can break it. I think I bought it on ebay.

I have Castle Sidewinder and 4600 motor and run just 3300 NiMH batteries. It rocks. Get the interface cable so you can program it with your laptop. Chris

You haveto buy the whole package... esc and motor. If your looking to save some money get the Castle Sidewinder.. I'd get the 5700 too. I have both the Mamba and the Losi and both are excellent.

Depending on what you surface you will be running on, you may need at least a different set of rear tires. The stock ones are okay until you switch to BL, then you don't get much grip on most surfaces. I personally think it's because the truck is already pretty light and the stock tires lack bite, I run lipos also so I'm sure that exacerbates the weight variable. I'm running the 4600 Sidewinder combo w/ 25-30C 4000MaH Lipos, tuned way down and you still have to be super easy on some surfaces. It has a tendency to just spin out from the get go, but a lot of the BL DT guys on here have swapped to some tires with more bite and seem to like it. Hope this helps. Also you can pick up either 1/10 Sidewinder kit (Motor and ESC) for around 130-140.

Does anyone on here run one of the ezrun brushless combos?I have been quite a bit of good reviews on them over here in the UK and i can get an 8.5t combo for £80 whereas one of the better known combos will set me back about £130.

I've heard both perspectives. The one I trust said: "You get what you pay for" If you just plan to bash and play with it infrequently, then it "should" be ok.

I got my EZrun brushless combo off of eBay for $98 CDN and it is so fast it's hard to control at times on pavement. The system is a nice one in that it comes with everything needed right out of the box, including a programing card.

In this thread, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8457415/tm.htm, 82% of respondents say it's worth getting.

Martin - Also order the USB PC interface cable. You can build and save profiles. It is also much easier to program the esc. I could beat most of the VXL Rustlers on our track because they could not control their power. Chris

I have an 1/18 EZ Run brushless on my mini-DT w/ a castle cm20 4200kv motor and it flies! I have over 30 runs using 2s lipos on this set up and haven't had a problem, it cost me around 50 dollars US. The programming card works well and it makes an awesome mini off-roader, my ESC is ice cold on 2s lipos @ 1750 MaH and a 35c burst 25c continuous. Also my manual for my EZ run esc says it is waterproof, I wouldn't try it but it was clearly stated in my manual. I would go with the ez run if you can pick one up for cheap but remember the Castle Sidewinder mini combo is around 100.00 US and is definitely a good combo w/ the motor and esc.
