My bad you are right the rear diff cups are plastic and the front are metal. I looked at the Brama briefly and it seems to be much less sturdy then the Cup racer but I mean I haven't seen it in person so Ican't tell for sure. Either way Iput my cup racer under the stress of the sidewinder 5700kv combo and its holding up real well so far. Cheers, raz

Good to know since I am basically looking for a car to put my MM5700 into. I originally bought it for my Slash, but switched to a VXL motor. Are the gears attatched to the center mainshaft plastic (The ones that turn the diffs)? I brike those on the brama as well. Thanks for the response, just trying to save myself another headache!

Sounds to me like you're set to get the car up and running. Your 20T motor will have a little more zip than your 27T motor. I'm running a 19Tmotor right now. It's easy enough to switch out the motors, so try both and see which one you like the most.

If you have a camera post some pics so we can all admire your handywork.

I'm running stock gearing on the 5700KV but it seems to be getting hot quite fast so I need to go down on the pinion and up on the spur. www.gearchart.com can help you out with that. I'm thinking a 24Tpinion and 67Tspur should be a bit better.

I'm just using the stock "in the box" gears. 65T Spur gear with 30T pinion. Works pretty well with my setup. I should say, I don't plan on racing, I'm just running it for the fun of it.

ro.sniper I like that gearchart. That's some great info.

I just finished building this 240z kit. Its my first and it brush painted. It also has a 19 turn LRP GT3 motor in it. Have not driven it as yet though.

Wow! That is really nice! Your color choices are unique and love the contrasting stripes! You should get that thing out in the sun for some nice photos, would really look real!
Great job!

Hi, I have been having some ESC heating issues. Shutting off from thermalling. Basically because I paired a 17T motor with a basic Tamiya ESC. (I think it's designed for stock and maybe down to a 23T motor)

This ESC is rated for higher wind motors and was overheating with the cockpit in the car and having no heatsink. So.... I removed the cockpit, made a heatsink out of aluminum tape, and cut a vent opening in the cowl of the car.
Amazingly enough I can now run an entire battery through, and the ESC stays cool. It really works! I didn't think it would, but so be it.

So if you are using one of these Tamiya ESC's and having cooling issues, try this. It actually works. I'm amazed.
Cheers,
Skottoman

P.S. Hey Donfartist.... If you haven't glued your tires onto your wheels yet, I think if you sprayed the wheels silver it would really make that car "POP!"

I was running my Datsun up and down the street this past Sunday and my neighbor came out to see the new car. He has had an LSTand HPI Baja 5B in the past. He immediately wanted to get one and he had me help him write up a list of stuff he needed to get one in his stable. Now he said he is going to start working on getting some of our other neighbors to get Cup Racers as well. The infection is spreading!!

It's funny, I've read on other forums about people having problems with their Cup Racers. I haven't had any problems (except some ESC heating issues I took care of). I've run probably 12 battery packs through the thing, wore out the stock tires, and are almost done with another set of HPI X-Cut tires.

Running a 17T motor and all the rest is stock.

Great little car!

My cup racer sounds really good without the wheels on, but when they or on it sounds rattly... I'm not sure what it is, but I think my tire may be severely out of balance.... how do i get them in balance... I also remember that I forgot to glue the foams inside... that probably has something to do with it no?

Painted it on the inside to  avoid leaving visible brush strokes

People think Iam crazy but Ikind of like painting from the outside as well for scale cars anyways. It just look so much more realistic that way. Even when it gets scratched it just looks like realistic body damage. Again very nice job take some outdoor shots if you can Iwould like to see it in sunlight.

Hey guys new to the boards here, but not to r/c. I use to own a few back in the day. (hpi R40, Hi Savage, Kyosho Inferno mp9) Anyway, Ive been missing the hobby for sometime now, and Im thinking about picking one of these up to toy with. Anyway I wanted to know what you guys thought about these for drifting. Its just something I want to have fun with, do some mods, and kind of work myself back into the hobby while I save up for a 1/10 scale nitro next year.

Anyway thanks for the help in advance, and look forward to joing the owners club..

Looks like HPI is starting to stockup their HopUps for the Cup Racer. My wallet is starting to burn in my pocket.

fade2black85 - Have you seen the Drift Version of the Cup Racer, or were you going to get a regular version and kinda mod it towards drifting?
