Hey I've seen the Tamiya Dark Impact body 'dust cover' discussion quite a bit in different threads. I finally got Tamiya USA to get back to me on the subject and they have them in stock directly from their site now. $20 isn't bad, hope this helps!

It's been "covered" (yes, pun intended) more than once in this thread. That's Tamiya's dark impact body shell, which fits over our chassis but under the body.

It's all good... welcome aboard littledevil and enjoy the ride!

Hello, I am new to rc cars and I love my DF-03ra and have purchased the following upgrades: Slipper clutch, steel front and rear diff. joints, heat sink bars, steel swing shafts and hobbywing 35a esc and 9t brushless motor. After doing some research I am concerned that the 29t pinion gear and 78t spur gear the kit supplies will be to high/low (however you see it). I beleive it is a 8.22 final drive with those gears. Is this safe or will I risk overheating the motor/esc? Right now I am using 3000mah nimh batteries untill I can afford a couple 2c lipos. Like I said I am new to rc cars, but wanted to upgrade because I was getting a little bored with the stock motor.

Nah I pushed my 9T harder than that it's fine. Touch your motor and ESC after a hard run it should be warm but not hot enough that it triggers a reflex to pull your finger away. I am running the same setup with 2s lipos and never had a problem. I upgraded to a 60A esc but not out of necessity ( I water damaged my 35A and decided to get a larger one for added efficiency)

Servo not included; most of the time when you buy a transmitter combo it comes with 2 standard servos which you can use.

What do you guys think is the most important Hop ups to get first? Are the cf chassis that they have on the etamiya website any good or worth getting?

can anyone tell me what the wheelbase on the df-03ra is? Tower lists it as 272mm (#58430) but the body thats available is 257mm (#51364)? thanks for any information on this...

It can be set to 257mm and 251mm depending on rear A arms used (both included in every kit)

190mm HPI bodies fit just fine (haven't tried them all I'm sure some of the more "slammed" models won't clear the shock mounts. I am working on a R34 GTR myself, it's fitted and everything I just need to do some details on it and mount the LED's.

Ok my frustration level is at an all time high.
is there anyone else who is just burning through main shaft gears and bevel gears?
Ive spent over 100 dollars in the last two months on replacement slipper clutches and bevel gears.
Ive used all different types of greases and I'm seeing wear on my THIRD slipper clutch.
There are no local shops that carry replacements.
How do I fix this!!

Nope, never had any gear issue other than the first time I ran 3s lipos I had my slipper clutch too loose and literally melted a spur (was driving on snow couldn't hear it slipping.

I suspect you have a bad gear case which has play in it and causes premature wear... Or you are running a megawatt of power with high grip tires

If anything I think the ball diffs would go first...

I've run about 10 3s battery packs and 5 or so 2s packs and never have had a problem... well, except for that one time I hit that pers... uh, nevermind!

Oh yeah i've since then run a lot of 3S through it and no other problem to report; the spur was just way too loose which means constant slippage and heat accumulation, to the point where it mushed up the spur. MY fault, no one else's...

Only other broken parts so far; front bumper top mount and one body post mount. Neither of which disabled the car (splint on the post, ignore the bumper which is still held by bottom brace) I got the replacements; $5 and the part number included both the bumper and the post. And again it was ALL my fault

Okay so I think something happened to my motor as I swapped out thestock Tamiya silver can w/ a 15T double and kept the gearing at 29/75yielding a final drive of 7.902 and I know I should be in the ball parkof low 8 final drive.

After 3 7.2V 6 pack runs the temps are still okay around 130 deg F on the motor and 140 deg F on the XL5 ESC.

However on the last pack it seemed to have developed an issue in braking and reversing.

There's a loud whine (sounds like the slipper pad) and it has nobrakes. When the car comes to a stop I can reverse but I have to do sovery slowly. Should I tighten the slipper more now or has it somethingto do with the motor?

Sounds like an esc issue to me, you are running right at the limit of recommended motors and it probably isn't liking the gearing, the xl5 is rated 100A forward and 60A brake/reverse. Maybe you have one reverse fet that's bad and it's fighting the others? (this can be surprisingly loud) Doesn't sound like a slipper issue as if it slips backwards it slips forwards.

Hmmm well forward throttle is still strong as ever and ESC just has problem braking. I'm taking the car over to my LHS tomorrow maybe they can figure out what that sound is...it reverses extremely slow and I can hear the motor working very hard and a loud squealing and gears struggling.

Spur and pinion and still meshed fine. Not sure what's going on...

Okay I think the XL5 ESC is toast.

I tried it running the car just now and even throttle won't work but the light does turn on and I can reprogram the ESC. It has nothing to do with the RX as I still have steering control.

How is it that the ESC is toast but the light still turns on?.....anyone have suggestions on another ESC I can run on the DF-03Ra that's waterproof?

If it is water damage have you contacted Traxxas? I still have my Sidewinder running strong after several water runs in the rain and puddles. I mentioned it before but all I did was treat it with CorrosionX the bottle is a little pricey but it isn't like you go through it quickly.

What is a good brand of universal swing shafts? the yeah racing ones I bought, 2 of them broke after 2 batteries, the pins that go into the diff. joints fell out. How often should I replace the yellow clips that go onto the end of the shafts? The shaft that the spur gear is on has a little play in it, I can wiggle the spur gear slightly with my fingers, very small amount is this normal? this is with a slipper clutch not the stock unit. The yeah racing steele diff. joints are looking a little beat already, kind of dented/mushed from where the swing shaft sits in, is this normal or should they be replaced? This is with a 9t brushless and 6 cell nimh battery.

also my rear diff. keeps coming loose. I tighten it as tight as i can then back it out about an eigth to a quater of a turn. Any tips on how to keep the diff tight? What kind of grease should I use?

Howdy!

I was out racing on Monday night when the car took a sharp turn to the left. I went to get it and found the steering link was off. I popped it back on and went out and every time I gave it power it would again go hard left. When I brought the car back to the pit I saw that the hub that the front driver side axle goes into is totally missing (see photos).

So, any clue what it is or what I have to order to get this fixed? First picture shows the hub on the passenger side. The other two show the missing part(s).
