Can this motor run on an 8.4v battery (NiMH)? I would assume so but I can't find any voltage specs on it, just that the trucks that come equipped with it use a 7.2v battery.

I was running this motor on 3s and someone told me I might not want to do that to often because the motor may not hold up well to the voltage. Anyone know what's a safe limit for this motor?

You did not specify in which car/truck "or" most especially what kind of Electronic Speed controller.

These are quality motors and inexpensive (mass produced) and I would caution that the motor may take the higher Voltage for short periods but, it is the Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) that you need to take notice as many makers of RC products install ESC equipment to just meet the nominal operating Current and Voltage as setup by them.

Since it is a 15-Turn I would say that the motor has a higher RPM/VOLT specification value than, other "Can" motors like some other larger types and with more windings to match up for 12-Volt Operation such as:

Therefore, I am certain that the motor you are asking about is the Mabuchi 540SH as shown here:

I do realize that the nice wrap-a-around sticker they place on these "can" motors make em look good but, they are mass produced and you can abuse them to a certain point and then, the brushes will burn up sooner than later.

If so, you can purchase another one very inexpensive and one place is Tower at:

However, your ESC might burn up sooner than the motor depending on the brand and type so, check into the maximum specifications. I believe that most of the HPI RC Cars/Trucks say to use 6-round cells so, that's nothing over 10 Volts off-the-charger.

My esc is ok. It's the waterproof evx2 from traxxas. good for 16.8 volts. Not worried about that, just the motor. I got my evader st to 31mph with 3s and stock gearing. not bad for a brushed motor.

Then, you have the ESC covered well and it has ample range all the way to 16.8 Volts.

Again, if it is the Mabuchi 540SH and per the above chart per my previous post then, the motor will not last too long as it's maximum operating voltage is 9.6 Volts.

However, at the replacement price for this motor, I would say go have FUN!

Well I just did it to see what kind of speed I could get out of that motor with the stock gearing. Normally it's only running 8.4v NiMh, so it's life should be ok I'd think.

Hell HPI Firebolts are so freaking cheap I'd run that motor on 3S 11.1V all day. As long as you have the right gearing set depending on weight of your truck/car just have fun!

There are several gear ratio calculators online that you can use to find your right gearing...just Google it.

Can you tell me if I can use this same ESC on my present Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem 22-Turn modified monster motor?

I see that the EVX2 from Traxxas has two battery harnesses for two batteries but, all I want is just one battery so, I am a little confused here?

I just want an ESC that can commutate the 22-Turn Brushed motor that I have presently and nothing else. All the fancy "other" stuff is nice but, to me not necessary, just want to get my Race Car back in running mode.

Yes it will work. All you have to do is plug the battery into one of the plugs and find out which one the BEC is on. You know this because the steering servo will twitch. The OTHER one you will have to jump. Just cut the connector off and twist the positive and negative wires together or solder them. That's it. Then it will work using only one battery. As far as using one motor (if that's what your planning), just connect both wires to the corresponding motor wire. From what I read you can just dispose of one set of leads but I was afraid to try it and didn't know if that would only provide half of the voltage, so I just connected both. Any other questions let me know. It works great and is waterproof!!

Hey my esc hasn't seen water and is only a couple months old. Will sell it to you already modified for $50, if interested or if you don't want to modify your current one.

Oh, thanks for the offer but, I am still in the learning curve and still doing research on which brand and type I need and of course within the budget to get my Cheap Chinese made large 1/6th Scale RC Race Car back in action using the Kyosho Monster Modified Magnet Mayhem 22-turn brushed motor.

This specific ESC will be on the list for sure!

Yeah I really like it. The esc is good for as low as 12 turns and as much as 16.8v. Good luck!
