Realflight G4.5 blurred scenery on Windows 7
Up until recently i have been running G4.5 on Windows 7 RC1 64-Bit without a single problem.
All that has changed in the last week.
For some reason the model is in perfect focus but the scenery surrounding the model is all blurred, kind of like the depth of field setting however that has not been configured.
Also, the text shown during the initial scenery loading and console messages are also blurred beyond recognition.
I don't know what's triggered this. I'm sure it was a Windows Update but i've checked and there were none installed that are related to graphics.
So far i've tried re-installing G4.5 and updating to the latest Radeon Drivers and i still have the problem.
The PC is a Quad Core 2.66Ghz, 4Gb RAM, 1GB Radeon 4870 Graphics.

OK, it sounds like an option got changed. If you didn't, then maybe your data file took a hit that flipped some bits.
There is a depth of field option that makes the background blurred. How blurred depends on a choice. I've played with it and usually leave it at a low setting. Some of the really cool flying sites are just too distracting when they're as sharply focused as possible. But enough of this..........
The drop down menu at the upper left, Simulation, open it and choose Settings
Open the Graphics
Choose Quality
Look for Post Processing: Depth of Field and the choices determine the sharpness of focus of objects in the background.

Nope that's not it.
I'd already stated that the depth of field is not set.
Whatever is causing this problem is effecting the loading screen and console messages too.

Your not having set it previously doesn't always matter if the pc file took a hit. Also, parameters can show valid options when the parameter field has a value outside the display value choices.
Files go bad on their own. Sometimes setting a previously untouched parameter works to reset the parameters that've been hit. Most times it doesn't. But knowing to do so is worth knowing.

However, the text being blurred does suggest much more of a problem than the view parameter.
I'd try uninstalling, defragmenting and then reinstalling.
If that doesn't work, then look for a restore prior to any update install.

Before you do what DaRock is suggesting, do this:
Go to the G4.5 launcher and using the launcher panel, select "Reset Realflight to it's defaults".
Then run G4.5 and recalibrate the controlled.
See if this fixes your problem.

I'd already tried that and the problem still exists.
I also completetly uninstalled Realflight and re-installed and the problem is still there.

Check the Radeon driver settings.
There is something that speaks about DXT textures.
Toggle whatever you see there to the opposite selection, and then reboot and see if this corrects the problem.

RE: Realflight G4.5 blurred scenery on Windows 7
SOLVED
I was looking around the Radeon's Control Center when i saw that under 3D settings there were various options like High Performance, Balanced, High Quality etc and the last was Custom which was ticked.
When i set it to balanced my problems with G4.5 were fixed.
I don't know what changed the settings because i didn't change the settings, but i'm happy to have my G4.5 working again.
My framerate is also better at about 285fps average. I might try the high and highest quality settings tonight to see how it goes.
Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
