I tested out the G5 at the store today, it was pretty good but..
Last time i tried a simulator was maybe a year ago, and i bought it on ebay for $35 with a controller... never again!! The had a G5 demo at the store, its pretty realistic and i liked it, a bit pricy indeed... are there other very similar simulators with just as good or better graphics that are not as pricy?
are there other options? for example, i dont have anything right now, and i want to start with a program first before i get another helicopter. Wont it be better to maybe find a good controller that might have a USB port for training and then find just a software.. maybe download G5 software somewhere for much cheaper price than what it sells for with a remote?
or maybe finding an older version like a G3.5 for pretty cheap with controller and then buying an upgrade to G5 and ending up with a cheaper G5 with older controller? what can you guys suggest? i definitely would want the best realistic experience possible, G5 seems like the deal?

Get a TX with a trainer port, a USB cable for it and FMS (free). Decent beginners sim on the cheap!

I owned G3.5 and now G5, and if I were you, I would simply buy G5. I was able to get G5 from Tower Hobbies for $160 with one of their almost weekly sales. It may seem like a lot, but when you start to look at how much the real things cost and replace, $160 or even $200 is a steal. Also, G5 is as realistic as they get and you won't regret it. Just make sure you have a good enough PC to run it. You can download the G4.5 demo and test it out. If it runs good, then you are set to go with G5.
FMS may be free, and good for training your thumbs, it lacks in the physics and graphical area.

There is no G4.5 demo. It is a G4 demo and will give you an idea of what G4.5/5 is like.
However, it does not indicate whether G4.5 or G5 will run on your computer. G4.5 (and probably G5) has several problems with a variety of hardware that meet their posted requirements.

If you're into saving money, then think again about the Super Saver membership. You have shipping waived on every order over a certain amount (forget what that amt is right now) and you get an email ever month or so with a discount schedule. It's a list of discounts versus your order amount like you see on their website every so often. Only difference is the discounts are greater than for non-members. No state tax, no shipping costs, and an overall discount of 15% or more depending on your total (members get an extra 5% more than non-members)...........
wanna save money, that's the way to do it. $2.00???? my last order saved slightly more than $60.00.

darock
That where this-"PC -$35 Promotional Discount In stock, shipping 1 $35.00-" Came from, the email. It is usually double the one on the website.
The Super saver Club paid shipping. Plus I get freebies once in awhile.-BW

nickt -Youll be happy with it. just trying to give you some future advice. I got 9 OZ of Epoxy with my $168.00. But as far as G5 goes...I got friends that don't have planes thinking about getting it. A couple of weeks on it and they will want real planes. And with what I've seen in the week I have had it , they will be ready.-BW

Here's the Tower link
[link]http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/realflight/gpmz4440.html[/link]
I run it on a 1.6ghz laptop...bottom line one...sometimes I disable some graphics features and it runs smooth. Runs great on my dual core 2.1 Ghz desktop with a 256 mb graphics card- BW

System Requirements for RealFlight G5;
http://www.realflight.com/new/system-reqs.html
Be aware of RealFlights disclaimer: "Some graphical features may be disabled. Aerodynamic calculations will remain high quality."
The reality is that you'll have to disable "some graphical features" in order to get moderate "aerodynamic calculations" with most minimum requirements machines. And, meeting the "OPTIMAL" requirements does not yield full graphical features without some aerodynamic degradation. RealFlight has been known to be a resource hog and has had numerous issues with laptop computers.
