RE: VAT
VAT or what ever the individual country calls it is yet another tax, most countries apply it but when purchasing from abroad you should ask them if you can buy it tax free as it's being shipped to another country.

RE: VAT
VAT is termfor Value Added Tax in English, Germans cal it MWST, Scandinavians MOMS.
If you buy from an EU country and you live outside the EU, then you should not have to pay VAT.
You will ONLY get the chance of buing VAT Free, if you buy from a dealer that offers VAT free sales out of the EU.
Krikke in Holland is a good choice http://www.modelshop.net
Another is Speed Tech Tuning http://www.speed-tec-tuning.de
A third is Hötcshick Tuning at http://www.fg-modelssport-vertrieb.de but He is bad at english, and you need to pay by Bank Transfer. But his Parts prices are the best I have found.
I have had good service from all 3.
Remember to CHECK with the dealer that you chooses, and get it confirmed that the price is indeed VAT free. At first try, Hobbythek (http://www.rc-car-online.de ) tells that their Web page prices IS their VAT free Export prices, making them considarably more expensive than Krikke. I don't know if they have changed their policy.
As for shipping, be aware that shipping with DHL/UPS/FedEx is VERY expensive. The ordinary postal service is lots cheaper, but shipping time could be up to 8 weeks, even when you order AirMail shipping.
If Package Weight is more than 20 kg(44 pds) then you can only ship by UPS/DHL/FedEx
German shipping prices can be checked at: http://www.post.de
UK Shipping can be checked at http://www.royalmail.co.uk
I don't have experience with any UK shops.
Remember to check the TOTAL price. It could easily be, that a dealer in one country has very cheap products, but shipping is VERY expensive, driving the total cost WAY up.
