Thats all great stuff, I take it this is for an SS build?

The SS comes with a bottle of 2 cycle oil, and frankly after that runs out I prefer to use klotz anyway. Its your call though, not a huge waste of money either way. If you're planning on using the Baja off road a lot, consider getting some bad horsie shock covers. They look good, do the job, and are like $10 shipped on ebay. Far cheaper than the outerwears ones and I actually prefer them.

Yeah it's for an HPI Baja SS kit...I'm almost done building it...I plan on bashing, but not too much...mostly backyard fun...but I'll go check those shock covers on Ebay.

Also, I considered getting Klotz oil at first because I'll get 32oz. for $10 (versus $7-8 for 3.4 ounces of HPI high performance oil). However, after using HPI's high performance oil, is it bad to switch over to Klotz? Do 2-stroke engines prefer the same kind of oil throughout the life of the engine, or is it safe to switch in-between?

Thanks,

Everything sounds good on that list Ben, I see you got the 2 stroke oil already figured out. I wouldn't buy a flywheel key though, you'll get one with your new kit and you'll have the one from the original crank you remove. I've never heard of them breaking on anyone ever. So i'd eliminate item 11 off the list. Other than that looks fine to me. You can go 30.5cc for around $50 more though if you want to go that big.

http://www.davesmotors.com/store/product1302.html
That's the 30.5cc ESP kit, if you're interested in going little bigger.

I know alot of them tools you're getting may seem like they are useless to you, but you'll enjoy them cause they do make rebuilding engines much easier. They are always a plus having.

Hello Bob...

Thanks for the quick reply in the forums...I'm concerned about busting dog bones with 30.5cc. Also, I couldn't locate a Race Ported 30.5cc at Dave's Motors...

A 30.5cc would be nice though...with the super-speed gear set, will the 30.5cc make a difference in both bottom and top end power?

Also, do you, or someone you know own DarkSoul's Proline Wheel adapters? IF so, do they increase the wheel stance (width) over stock stance?

Thanks buddy..

Ben

You can switch to CASTOR from any other type with no issues but to switch from castor to, say a full syn or standard petroleumtype oil you will need to disassemble and clean all castor out of engine. Cant remember why but I know that from my dirtbike days. something about the castor sticks to everything inside and the regular stuff doesnt and the castor repels the other oils or something. Which I do find interesting because nitro fuels , most anyway are a castor/syn blend. I think I'll call my localbike shop and ask if its still necessary. As far as dogbones go I would say the silver heavy duty ones at a minimum, I have stock eng with hpi pipe and have broken 3 stock bones in 4 weeks of running.

Um, is this a pm that you accidentally posted in the forums?? [&:]

Anyway, yes, 30.5cc will make a big difference and give you enough power to still retain some bottom end even with those tall gears. A 30.5 won't rev as high as, say, a race ported Zenoah 26, but the extreme bottom end and those tall gears will make up for it.

As for your question about axle extenders, you made another thread about it. Try to stick to one thread for all related questions.

yeah, I meant for that to be a PM...I apologize.

Do you think it's worth purchasing a race ported zenoah 26cc and avoid all the time and money on tools and 30.5cc head kit?

Is the race ported Zenoah 26cc any good? How high does it rev compared to a CY 29 or 30.5 cc ? Does it have enough bottom end (HP/torque) ?

I apologize for all the questions..just wanna make sure I purchase what is best...

Thanks,

Here's a good list of upgrade engines and their (estimated by the seller) horsepower and final rpm. It's still a difficult decision, and personally I'm not very experienced in what beats what, at the moment, I can only go on what I read. I have a stock Zenoah 26cc in my Hummer, and everyone says that with a good pipe, its as much motor as anyone needs, so a race ported one, you can expect to be tremendous. Howerver, for all out grunt, I guess you can't beat the 30.5s. In terms of power, there's no replacement for displacement, as they say. Although the bigger engines tend to rev slightly lower, the extra power allows you to gear them taller to make up for it. Like I say, difficult decision, here's the link I was talking about... Click on 'Motoren / Engines' on the left, then again when the links come up. I believe that the top two 'Falcon' engines are Zenoah based (23cc and 26cc respectively), note that they haven't increased the displacement to make their most powerful engines. This is because for racing certain sizes only are legal (23cc for on-road and 26cc for off road)...

instead of buying the 23mm axles for prolines tires why do you get axle extenders instead and buy the badland tires??? that would make more sense, plus then you do not have to GLUE any tires and they will last long then 1/8 scale tires IMO

Yep, I already decided to do that....it does make more sense...I'm only interested in extended the rear anyway...

Those new badlands look really cool...how long do they last? are they larger in diameter?

They're supposed to be the same diameter as Baja tires (who cares if there's a mm or two difference), and they are said to last much longer than the stock Baja dirt busters. Again, this is based on what I've heard, not personal experience (which I hope to gain soon, badlands for the Baja are high on my list of 'things to get soon').

Remember not to confuse the old Dirt busters with the revised Dirt Busters. HPI seems to have changed the tyre compound so they don't rip so easy, the side wall was changed a while back to accomodate the HD rings and the yellow foams which were a big part of the problem are long gone. HPI Dirt busters are still suffering from the poor rep the origional release gave them, they should have re-named them Dirt buster II or something to differenciate...

I for one like the dirtbusters, just hope my prolines last as long as the dirtbusters! (I get gallons out of the dirt busters)

With extenders you wont go wrong with either. DS include a wheel nut. VP are a little cheaper and have a nice feature to stop the ring in the wheel from making its way loose, this also doubles to help stop the wheel from flexing. I run VP's all the way around because of the nice little thought out features(and they are a bit cheaper)

Reed kit is useless without the piston cut for the reed. Starter paw isn't needed either, Outerwears keeps all the gunk out the starters and they stay working just fine.

Ben, I wouldn't worry about a torque wrench, I usually just tighten them down as good as I can by hand and call it torqued. I use blue locktite too.
