Default Break In Procedures...

Can an engine be broken in on a car stand?

For example, can I place the Baja on a car stand so the wheels are in the air, then break in the engine following break in procedures (i.e. low varied throttle) instead of driving the Baja around dirt, grass, pavements, etc...????

Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

These motors do not need a lot of break in ...............maybe a tank,25:1 oil mix and you should be good to go!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just use light throttle on the 1st tank..............some say just let her rip from beginning but I have dad 3 gas powered cars and never had issues!!

Good luck

you'd need to bolt a prop to it to put some load under it, not very good to run them without any load on them, it's just too easy to over rpm them

A prop? what is that? where can I find one?....

A popular company that sells modified engines told me that they break in their motors by letting the engine idle on a stand (with rich carb settings) for two tanks.

As long as I keep the rpm's low, then I think I should be ok.

a prop is a propeller from a plane, it'll allow you to toss a load on the engine and vary the rpms for breaking it in or setting it up, it's easier to install the engine and do it though...no break in is really required on these.
Worst thing you can do to any engine is allow it to run at a steady rpm for a long period, whoever told you that obviously knows nothing about engines. A proper break in on any engine is varied rpm's never the same rpm, but never going full throttle either, run it as normal and lay off the full throttle for a tank if you choose too. 2 cycle engines have 1 piston ring which seats seconds after the motor is started plus the cylinders aren't etched so the ring seats quicker, remember a 2 strokes piston ring is designed to allow blow-by so the bottom end gets oiled, they never fully seat...on dirt bikes we run 1 rich tank then go to the normal mix....on these i've always run my first tank slightly rich then started tuning for speed and performance on second tank, never had any issues.

over rated
throw the engine in the car and run it easy for the first tank don't hold it wide open at all.
Once 1 tank is gone
Tune for power you are done

I don't even take it easy for the first tank. Start it,run it around easy to warm it up,tune the needles and let it RIP!

This way for GASOLINE engines, not NITRO.

Always run under a load as already stated.
I also take it easy for the firsy tank at rich settings to let everything settle in nicely. Second tank I tune and by the time it is done I am at full range of speeds and pretty much dialed in.

Make sure the needles are set to stock settings. Don't assume that they are. Let it warm up to a good warm temp, especially in the winter time. I think that should go for every time you run, not just the initial break in.
