RE: Pics of my latest project MCD Rally car
Well the official first run is complete. It even come home in one piece ! Only damage is a few scuffs on the front inner fenders, where the tires come up & touched the body. It runs & handles very well, as I expected I must say. Thanks to my wife I have some video to share of the initial test & first real runs on it. As you can see by the video we don't play around, we run our vehicles pretty hard & put them through their paces. This is what they are designed to do, and do it very well.
Thanks for all of the compliments, Hope you like the video.

RE: Pics of my latest project MCD Rally car
got dizzy watching it.
looks nice. now put it into some low gravel or hard packed dirt for some rally 4wd action. lets see if those 2wd cars can catch you then.
car seems responsive gas and brake and steering but looked kind of squirlly a bit, guess you will work out the settings at a later session.

RE: Pics of my latest project MCD Rally car
That's the challenge with these though, ea... you remember how it was when you drove the mid engine cars the first time in gran turismo? They're CoG and weight distribution in the centre... that's what these are like. They WANT to enter the corners sideways, it's hard to avoid it. As I watched that I was thinking, 'Wow, his setup's nearly there for a track, it looks planted', but to you it looks squirrely. Mine are both set up for drifting, so understandably they're stiff and drifty, but when I first got it and it was set up for traction, it's wasn't good. When I've done the drift vids, I'll be setting mine up for traction and seeing what I can do.
Basically you have to pick an application and stick to it. If it's rally you need the long travel shocks and some soft diffs, whereas for traction you want a locked centre, hard front, soft rear and the short shocks set up stiff. For drifting you want to drop the car to the absolute floor on very hard shocks and lock as many diffs as you can. Chopping and changing would be a tiring exercise. Like I say, when I'm done with the drifting, I may set one up for traction, and the other up for rally, I do have the long travel kit and a spare planetary diff.
Bob, can you share your setup? To me that looked quite well sorted for an MCD on tarmac. I'm guessing blue spot tires?

RE: Pics of my latest project MCD Rally car
Yea Foxy it actually drove pretty well. I needed to take a bit of steering out on my radio, but just adjusted my driving to small movements of the wheel. A bit more travel than needed, but comes in handy in slower tight places. On set-up : The spring tensioners are about 1/4 inch down on all 4 corners. Just a bit more in the front, after I noticed the rub. Still a bit soft but drives the corners well at pretty big speeds. My gears for this run are 33/30 26/23, and that did pretty well. Definitely on blue spote tires. As they get warm the grip like crazy & wear like iron. Notice the rubber dust on the car sides.
Here are my rub marks & after pics.

RE: Pics of my latest project MCD Rally car
Thanks everyone !! We are looking for people who are interested in 4x4 on-road racing. They are a blast to drive & can run very fast. The racing looks very real due to the body designs and size. Anyone with a car that fits the catagory give a shout out. Hope to go running again here very soon !
