Default Flying a RC plane with somebody sitting in it

Various full scale planes and droneshave the capability to fly and land without human input, that is not new.

I was wondering if somebody have ever tried building a RC model plane large enough to carry a person(passenger)and fly it from the ground? - or maybe from the plane itself?

If so, how would you design such a plane and what engine/radio gear would you use?

Cheers

I think that there's a youtube video of some chap flying a home-made plane by RC, when he is actually sitting in it. He has the Tx in his hands, as normal.

I don't know where to find the video, though.

Actually, it may have been a large quad-copter.

I agree that it would be a very bad idea. The pilot has no sense of what the plane is doing. I read a story a while back and do not know if it is true, but supposedly a man put his dog in a 150CC plane and took it for a ride. When he landed the dog was dead. It was said that the pilot peformed some manuevers that placed too many G's on the dog and killed it. Again I dont know if it is true, but what I do know is that flying people in a large RC is a very very bad idea.

For the money you would have to spend you could just go buy a nice 2 seat ultralight and learn to fly the correct way.

To answer the last part of your question I would refer you to my answer above. An ultralight is about the smallest thing I know of capable of carrying the weight of a human passenger. I am sure there is a way to make one Radio control if you were really motivated to, but again why. If I had the cash to buy an ultralight and really fly it I sure as heck would not waste the money to make it RC so I can sit on the ground while it flys. I would be up there enjoying the wind in my hair.

There are some weight limits to what the RC aircraft associations will let you do... anything is possible, but why?

You might have a big problem with your countries flight control agency... Again... Why do it? Sounds like you have desires that may not be legal.

If you want to do something legally, it will likely be as an experimental aircraft. Don't expect much help unless you are willing to detail you plans to use the aircraft.

The military has been doing it for years. When they train pilots to fly the F-4s that they use for drones they have a pilot ride in the jet to take over in case the drone pilot messes up. He is called the white mouse.

I guess you could also include NASA. They flew a monkey in a remote controlled rocket, a VERY BIG rocket that is.
