Got to test fly another UF at the local field today. 120m is ample for an UF. This model is a vintage model, built around 2 years ago, but never flown till today. P-120SX and DSX-12 radio, its was like a quality pair of shoes, just felt perfect from moment one. Two flights and a happy owner.

So the 1131BPU?
The Flash has a carbon band on either side, so avoid that. One on the face of the tank is good up high. Using stock install plates? Can you photo what you have?
The DMSS system is really good picking up signal

Its the end of the wire on the RA01L's doing the main work, so get one vertical and one horizontal and then stick the other to the front of the tank and you should be fine.

I already painted the interior but from looking at other forum pics, it looks like the carbon is on the top part of the electronics bay and runs parallel to the length of the fuselage. Is there any other carbon up front?

Check the flap servo gears carefully and the elevator hinge has not been separated (lift the elevators gently)
( i'm sure it was timed skill and not luck ;-) )

The best scheme on my epinion.
I think these bird does'nt need any gyro, may be for steering only. I start my jet career by UltraFlash and can say - she is the best and stablest plaine in the world.

Well I finally put my plane back together...been a while as Ive been flying a Euro and a Xcalibur...both which are great fun..
the original version of my UF was heavy ( I put all the stuff in ) and had bypass issues.
I put it on a diet and removed all the non essential stuff and changed to lighter setups in gear....
the engine is the same. P140RX
Unfortunatley the Bypass is still tight around the p140RX. Its as far forward on the mount as you can go. ie toward the front.
I did extend the Bypass a little...went as far as I could and still be in/on the skirt of the cone.
But the Saddle tanks press in on the bypass and cause the carbon bypass to touch the jet net on the front of my engine..
Have any of you installed it a little back from the front of the engine mount area/blocks. ie about 7mm?
That would give me a nice gap for a 5mm breeze around the engine, allow me to leave the FOD guard on.
It will also allow me to have my COG right on...with the larger batteries I would prefer to use...can just use my light ones if not.
It will however mean the rear of the engine is closer to the thrust tube.....
Thoughts...???

The tailcone to tailpipe gap is more important than the gap around the turbine case. We have dozens flying here with full bypass and FOD's. You will have higher temps than we see here, so add some ducts into the carbon cover (bottom when you look though wing seat)
We see normal temps on the turbine, but tail pipe temps are more crucial.

Hey Dave,
I've been reading through this thread, and you appear to be somewhat of an expert on this plane...
I'm looking at replacing my Skymaster F15 with something else... I mostly fly an AD Scorpion, and I also have a SM F14 in my hangar...
The F15 never really grew on me, and it hardly ever comes out, and that's a shame. So I've been on the lookout for a second "sport" jet, a plane that just like the Scorpion is easy on maintenance, an that can be flown all day long without pulling out the tools (unlike the Tomcat... ;-) )
I'd pull the Jetcat P120 SX from the F15, I have a new PB Baselog lying around, 5 JR 8911's, and other assorted stuff......
I know of one guy flying an (original) classic flash, and to be honest, this is what kept me away from this plane, as he flies it around like a rocket, and that's not what i'm looking for....I rarely go full throttle on the Scorpion (15kg thrust Graupner Booster in that one...). It also has a very draggy airframe, thick wings, so it doesn't really pick up speed. The big airbrake also helps it slow down on landing, so it mostly stops at half the lenght of the field without brakes...
I love the looks of the Flash, (I'm absolutely not into the looks of Avanti's and the likes), but given my flying style, I'm a bit apprehensive about the slow flying, and the landing speed... especially since the fields I fly from are not that big....
Can you reassure me that this is the plane for me?? Love the swiss version, but since my Scorpion is already in those colours.... ;-)
I'd certainly go with the saddle tanks, I'd hate disconnecting fuel lines to get the wing off... however they seem very flimsy at best.... alternatives for this? the Jet-Tech tanks?
Regards,
Wim

Its the perfect aeroplane (though to be honest the Classic Flash flies slowly too) our grass field is not a big landing area, or flying area and there are now 10+ UF's in that club.
The P-120SX is a perfect turbine this is the thread starter a few years back with a P-120SX on a gusty day in a small airfield https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuM-MAIAzwQ
Very little full power used.
You will need 2 x 8411's for the elevators, but the 8911's can go in the wing and fin.
The wing tank is absolutely no problem, you have to connect servos and air, its one joint and using a Festo ball valve for the joiner, not even a drip!!
Its a fun airframe to fly with the flaps down and 'cruise'!
Just had in another Swiss UF for another local guy...

Dave,
I Lioke the swiss scheme, but from experience with the Scorpion it can be hard to see on an overcast day..... could be my eyes going bad as well though... ;-)
I think I found my next plane, first need to move the F15 though....The Tomcat put a BIG hole in my modeling budget..... ;-)

WimB, I fly my Ultra Flash from a 450' runway with trees on one side and a pond on the other. Slow flight is effortless. It's a remarkable aircraft.
I have the optional saddle tanks for fuel. Wing tank is for smoke.
