Default New from Futaba, who will be the first?

To fly the new 18MZ in a jet? Is it already being done in Japan?
Check it out. Tower has it on their site. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBUBZ&P=0

"A built-in 0.3M megapixel camera. No need for a digital camera or even a flip phone. Just point the 18MZ, click and you have a foolproof picture ID of your model in seconds."

Worth every penny then...I can't stop laughing. Sorry.

I looked at it too at jetpower and predicted they will try charging £2500 in the UK for it...( £1000 or $1600 dollars more than for the 14mz)
With a RRP of $3999, it doesn't seem like i was too far off the mark!

( For info, at JP, it was significantly lighter than the 14MZ, the screen appeared to be higher rez and brighter, and more responsive than the 14)

well in my case... 18 channels =
1- throttle
2- nose wheel steering
3- rudder
4- Flaps/slats
5- gear
6- wheel brakes
7- right taileron
8- left taileron
9- speed brakes
10- wing sweep
11- left spoiler
12- right spoiler
13- arresting hook
14- canopy
15- refueling probe
16- lights
17- exhaust nozzles
18- nose gear "kneel"

granted, nearly half of those could be elimated since they are just "cool things" but if you can do it, why not... lol

Just to point out one little fact about the 18MZ.....

It's really a 16+2 as the last 2 channels are just like those on the 14MZ - switched channels without any adjustment features or mixer involvement.

When I saw this on the Robbe stand, I was a little disappointed, as I was expecting FULL 18 channel operation.

Either way, some will love it and some will mock it.

The price will be whatever it ends up as - currently looking at 14MZ + 10% ish for UK market and those that want it will buy it.

I have the 14 MZ. Theoretically I got it because I wanted all the channels. I haven't used all the channels yet and am still trying to figure out how to program it. My wife thinks I got it mostly I got it for the bling, and the shiny knobs, she could be right.

$3000, $4000 is there a difference

Futaba RR is $4000 I think Tower is doing a special at $3000 just shows how much over priced this is when you can knock $1000 off

Different people buy the transmitters for different reasons; number of channels is only one factor.

I didn't buy a 14MZ so am looking to replace my old 9z. I definately need more channels!!! It sounds stupid but I also want to be able to put the TX back in the case (which I can't do with my 9Z with the 2.4 module). Telemetry and the S-Bus programmer on the 18MZ will also be very handy.

The $$$$ thing is funny as people are quite happy to spend that much money for one turbine but cough at spending that on a transmitter than you will use on multiple models. That said, I'll give it a while for the rush to die down and see where the price settles. I'm betting that it doesn't stay at $3000 for too long.

It's funny how we have no problem buying (and flying) $10k-20k jets, but the one thing that should be the most expensive is the one we don't want to spend the bux on! I'm not condoning Futaba's $3K price tag (personally I think it's outrageous), but you would think the one component in our hobby that is the lifeline to our jets getting back in one piece would be worth as much! Or at least in proportion to our jets? Maybe our planes are too outrageous in pricing? But we all know that to be true in some manufacturers' case! ...just saying
