Default Waiver or Permit?

The idea is because of recent years of turbine operations have been largely safe. With time and experience, the safety standards from users and manufacturers will only be on the rise, wouldn't it make sense for AMA to restate that turbine are allowed, but would require a permit to operate?

Why don't you clearly explain the question that the poll is to answer so that we may respond with a meaningful answer?

it's a waiver simply because AMA states turbines are NOT allowed, you get a waiver (which is the appropriate term) to allow their use.

The AMA does not have the authority to issue a "license".The FAA does, and we certainly don't want them involved in our hobby.

License from who? AMA? Like others say AMA doesn't license anyone. They don't have an license authority. Are you talking about the federal government? If so, who would want that? That's crazy.

Ah, to live where folding and throwing a paper airplane breaks 20 different federal aviation and transportation laws and could result in 120 years in prison if the government chose to enforce those laws. I hope we don't turn into that country.

We're going to license, waiver, and regulate ourselves right out of the hobby.

It really bothers me that the American people of all stripes are constantly calling for more licenses, regulations, this or that, yet we wonder where our country has gone?

I though the same as well about the poll's 'options'.

It warrants no vote.

I'm not sure.

I do however, think there are a lot of "questions" in this poll.

AMA doesn't have any authority over anyone. It's a like AARP. They are a modelers advocacy group. They only require its members who want to be protected under their umbrella insurance policy to be waivered. They don't license, they don't permit, they don't regulate. I don't think you understand what they do.

Thank you Andy, I admit, don't have a very clear idea of AMA here.
Moderators, if what Andy described is true, please close this poll/thread, otherwise, let it take its course.  Others are welcome to chime in as well.

Maybee the AMA has it backwards, turbines should be allowed and electric park fliers should be waivered.... I've dodged a lot more of them than turbine jets...

The AMA is a club, by membership ... nothing else. It cannot issue permits, regulations, or for that matter, even a waiver. It has no authority or enforcement power.

No we don't and yes we do. The vast majority of modelers fly safely, but there are a few that need structure. There need to be some rules regarding things that fly to 200mph and beyond. The current AMA guidelines have no penalties. Most of the time FAA penalties are assessed when then pilot causes an accident or violates airspace rules... After crashes and injuries is when we need enforceable FAA rules not AMA guidelines. This is important in densely populated areas.

Flying and driving licenses are the only system to create that order. Right now it is the wild west... anything goes. Hunters and fishers have learned to work with in a license system, and so can airplane modelers. Times are changing... we need to adapt.
