RE: Jetcat smoke pump
Hi:
I friend of mine gave me an old ESC from a chinesse brushed motor that he replaced for a brushless one.
Y dissasembled the pum and cut the motor wires from the electronics. ESC has motor wires on one side, battery wires on the othe side and receiver wire and an on - off push button.
I passed the ESC wires throug the two holes in the pump used for the programming buttons. I let the green battery connector and receiver connectors in the back of the pumpopemed. I sodered the ESC wires to the motor and in the other side of the ESC, I soldered a male multiplex connetor for a LiPobattery.
Iinstalled the pump in the Boomerang in the other side of the turbine pump in the same way turbine pump is isntalled and i ran the ESC and wires, to the front of the jet to connect the receiver wire. LiPo battery for the smoke pump was installed on one side of the UAT just in front of the fuel tank..
Now, heres is a trick: once connected the battery and receiver wires, receiver becomes alive once ESC is on. You can even remove the receiver battery and receiver remains on. I was affraid of connecting two batteries to the receiver, one through BATT connector and the other through channel 11 for control smoke pump speed. I was afraid of burning the receiver. I measured the voltage in the receiver wires coming from the ESC and int was 5.1 regulated, so the ESC is tregulating the 7.4 Li ¨Po battery voltage to the receiver.
A friend of mine warned me about burning the receiver if two voltage are connected to it and we took the recever wires and removed the red wire from the connector. Just the white (signal) and the black (-) remained in the connector.
Smoke pump worked flawlessly.
I can post some pictures tonight

RE: Jetcat smoke pump
That's a good point. When connecting anything powered on its own , i usually remove the positive lead going to the RX, and only leave signal and ground. I have converted a few spare fuel pumps to smoke pumps by use of cheap brushed ESCs myself ... when buying a new pump, I would go with the Skywriter ..
