Jetcat smoke pump
Hi:
I have a smoke pump but I can't get it work I followed instruction about using the RX mode but I cabt get it to work Aby suggestion? BRG |
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
Ok here the first question.
Did you tested the pump by itself using a battery directly to turn the pump? if you did and it works now is time to look at the set up, also you may want to call Bob W. at Jetcat USA or send him a email regarding you problem. |
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
Connecting a 7.4 V battery directly to the pump will make it start? If it will, then the pump need a switch to stop running once a battery is connected directly.
Or, what do you mean with connecting a battery directly? I have connected a 7.4 V battery to the multiplex green connector and the pump do not start. I think it will not start until it receive some kind of signal from the receiver. (I have choosed the Rx option). Do I need to do any jumper for testing the pump once a battery is connected directly? BRG |
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
Does the pump "beep" when you hold the button down and turn the rx on?
|
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
That's what I was trying to say, test it to see if it works by itself.
|
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
No
The pump do not beep when I hold the button down and turn on the receiver |
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
I've been a long time Jet Cat lover.
And their smoke pumps are HORRIBLE. I can list all the problems I've had with them, including what you are having but it's really not worth it. Really. The best advice (I'm sorry Bob W. and crew) is to try to get your money back and buy TWO sullivan skywriters. Skywriters take a serious beating and work and work and work and work..... http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/DSC_0302.jpg http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/o...anditsmoke.jpg |
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
Thank you for your advise.
Money back is not possible because I got this pump 3 years ago and never used it. It was in its original package until now. Any other opinion prior to throw this pump in the trash can? Jetcat direct support do not reply my posts. Maybe the know about their issues with this pump. Strange situation because turbine pumps are very reliable don't you think? |
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
Yes, the turbine, brushed motors work very well.
I had multiple problems with the gears getting gummed up with the JetCat smoke pumps. I.e., its not just with the motor/controller either. |

RE: Jetcat smoke pump
I just went through this with a Jetcat pump. I replaced it with a Skywriter.

RE: Jetcat smoke pump
The pump is great...one of the best on the market for producing great smoke. The problem is the circuit board. Loosen the Allen screws on the pump casing and pull the pump and control board out. Look at the back of the board. Chances are there is a circuit there that you will see has burnt thru. U can reconnect it by soldering a small connector wire. That sometimes works. The other solution most do is to just use an electric motor ESC and connect that to the positive and negative leads of the pump and run it via the ESC. It will produce great smoke this way. I know it's a pain, but a much better and cheaper solution to throwing it in the trash and buying something else.

RE: Jetcat smoke pump
Thanks for the workaround. I'll pull the board and take a look.

RE: Jetcat smoke pump
That's not good news for the Jetcat smoke pump i still have new, bought a couple of years ago....
|
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
Take the pump out of the case, solder a "brushed" EFLIGHT 15 amp speed controller to it and you are done...
Used them for years... Work great! |

Where exactly should the small connector wire be soldered? I tested the pump connecting a battery directly to the + and - terminals and it works fine but without speed control Attached are two pictures, The microchip broken is the one that is on topofthe two that are together BRG |

HI all, Afterburner 1 is right, Jetcat circuit boards are crap, replace with brushed 15-20 amp turnigy speed control, really cheap from Hobby King.

RE: Jetcat smoke pump
Well, I took the pump to an electronic technician and he said that this microchip is a diode. He changed it for e new one but the pump did not work.
I am going with the RC Pete suggestion of installing a speed controller. |

Rcpete Could you please give more details on how exactly did you install the Turnigy ESC (where was it soldered, what parts did you remove from the jetcay smoke pump and how does it all look after the mod.) Thanks in advance, |
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
You solder the esc wires directly to the terminals on the motor.
|
RE: Jetcat smoke pump
Thank you. Therefore, all other electronics should be removed, correct?
