Sebart Avanti S Build Thread w/KT 180

You really think so ? Mine doesn't have thrust vectoring or smoke or anything else that would make it heavy and I think it's only about 24lbs. With a K140 it's airborne in about 15 feet ( no flaps) and if I stand it on it's tail it's got great vertical.. I realize that I've got quite a bit more thrust than a 100 would offer and I'm not trying to say you're wrong. I just would have expected it to come in pretty light with a 100 and that the performance would be much better than marginal. Shouldn't a 100 give about 22lbs of thrust which I would think would be very close to 1:1 thrust to weight ratio?

Now mine has VT and smoke with a Behotec 180, that's a whole 'nuther story....

The OP isn't at 4500' ASL like we are here, but still he wants to fly off grass. I'd say a 140 is the absolute minimum to be considered. I have a friend who has one with a KingTech 140 and in the summer around here, it runs out of vertical in a hurry besides longer take off rolls on a smooth surface.

He said taking off from grass. I have flown mine on a rough field, and I've flown the mini avanti on the same rough field with the K45 which is overpowered, it takes a while to get up to speed. I'm sure it could fly just fine with a 100 off asphalt, but grass is the big deal to me for more power.

I see Electron Retracts has a SebArt Avanti LG package on there website, has anyone bought these? I'd like to know if it's a drop in deal or the same set as the Krill which needs to be slightly modified?
I did the maiden flight on mine last weekend and now have 20 flights on it, I must say it's a pretty sweet flying Jet! I did drill and tap the wing tubes for 3mm bolts instead of the silly wood screws.

The electron retracts r great. It does take some work to get them to fit. Been awhile since I've done it so I don't recall the details. U will have to move blind nuts to get them to fit.

Yes I did, That's why I was asking.
When looking at electron's website, these appeared to specifically fit the SebArt model. https://www.electron-retracts.com/pr...-combo-sebart/

1) As was mentioned, you will need to move a couple of the blind nuts and do a bit of Dremel work to get them to sit in the wings properly.
2) The original gear doors WON'T fit any more. The fixed doors are easily modified to get them back in place but the Electron gear legs fit MUCH closer to the surface of the wing than the stock Avanti gear so if you try to use the original doors they will sit well above the surface of the wing. I'm currently 3D printing a set of gear doors for mine that have a bit of an airfoil to them so they sit flush with the wing around the edges.
3) When I installed the nose wheel in mine, the wheel hit the front of the nose wheel door opening and I needed to remove about 3mm of material from the front of the door opening to ensure it didn't hit the opening and jamb.
All of this was pretty easy to deal with and the gear works really well. I really like the electric brakes too. A single 800mah 2S Lipo is enough to power the gear and brakes for about 2 dozen flights according to the instructions.

My 3D printer is kind of a cheapo so the finish will be rough. You will need to do a lot of filling, sanding, priming, etc and paint them to match to get them to look good. If that is Okay with you I can print you a set for the cost of postage. It will be a few days before I'm done with them. I'll send you a PM once I'm done.

Hi all
Mine Avanti S has a Kingtech K140 G2 in it, once again it has limited climb power like a F3A plane. After 50 flights the front turbine cracked during full power on the top of loop. The engine had been sent back at the factory for claim. I have some several questions...
1) Anybody using k140 on this plane the same problem?
2) does anybody use kingtech k180 for hovering? since this thing happened to me, I had doubts in its performances
Thanks in advance for the helps to all.

I have a KT180 in mine. With an extra 50oz tank underneath and full of smoke oil, it will accelerate vertically. Tumbles and flat spins all day long... I have not tried to hover it.
I fear a 210 would rip the wings off... this is a balsa and monokote wing that may not have been built ideally... I discovered zero glue around the retract mounting blocks once I pulled the sheeting away... could be same in other places.
Incredible design, not the best construction....

Throttle management would be needed for a 210, My little 140 pushes this air frame 167 MPH out of a big Cuban eight which is faster then the recommended speed envelope. I like the 210 because its 3oz lighter then the 180 and the extra 6lbs of thrust would be nice "if" a guy was trying to hover it lower then 100'

You can say that again. I have been flying mine for two and 1/2 years now and love the way the airplane fly's. Not to long ago had a hard landing and tore up the gear mounting blocks. I replaced them thinking I had improved the strength of the mount. Well I was wrong and now it looks like I have opened a can of worms. the gear mounting area appears to be weak after all I have tried. Gear blocks broke again yesterday. Landing was not that bad.
I am sure I am not alone, if anyone can offer advice on what they did to fix the problem after their mounting gear blocks were ruined I could use some help.
I thought about opening the bottom of the wing and replacing everything but that looks to be an impossible job with all the hysol I had used in my fix.
I thought about ordering a new set of wings (650 dollars) but the same thing could happen again.
I really don't want to retire the airplane. Fuse and all is in perfect shape.
Any ideas?
Stan

Hi Stan,
I pulled the sheeting around the blocks... Guess what, zero glue on the outside of those blocks! I lysol'd the hell out of everything and laid some 6oz carbon on the upper wing skin and up against the blocks. Since then, I have treated this thing like a 4x4. Our grass field is rough, and thats putting it politely.. no problems. I wouldn't order another set of wings because you would possibly encounter the same thing. Unless the Krill ones fit... that would rock.
I have also cracked the fuse along the bottom on both sides of the spine. Been too lazy to pull all the equipment and fix it. Mine is beat up, but it still fly's well.
