Thanks for clarification, I seen the sebart version and didn't realize there are multiple brands now carrying this jet. Im glad its not wood!
Going to consider this for next year. Viperjet is getting old even with upgraded turbine and gyro.

Okay it has to have been the rod bending, because he has the same carbon control horns as me and pretty much the same length on the servo arm. So this should be an easy fix to have a nice flying jet!!!

Oh and just a not about the thrust vectoring, I will be doing a small mod to mine this week. The thust vectoring didnt help much and thats because of the limited throw it has because it will hit the main pipe. So my fix for this to give as much vectoring as I want is to add a piece of ply to the back side of the TVP(thrust vector pipe) mounts. This will only push the TVP out about a 1/4 inch but by doing this it allows for a lot more travel. The elevator axis seemed to have more authority than the rudder axis when I tried it. I was able to get the jet into a high alpha on the last flight but when I tried to do a flat spin like you see QQ do, the jet didnt really move much. So I will report back on this once its back in the air

Does anyone have any advice on a good type Dremel bit I can get that will make grinding out the old carbon horns easier? I have been considering just installing the new horns right against the old, just shifting to the side.

So for the folks following I ordered these horns today, they are fiberglass and knowing me i will probably going to laminate them with carbon fiber. 1.5 inch length should give all the clearance needed to lower my rod location to any point on the servo arm. I dont think I should have to drop below 1 inch point on a arm but it seems to be a common thing on jets due to small throws required.
So things im doing to prevent this problem are.
1: making sure there are no live hinge play (already) did this during build
2: replacing stock rods with H9 titanium rods
3: already using ball ends for on each end of rods, no slop
4: replacing stock 3/4+ inch control horns with 1 1/2 inch horns
5: making sure end points on servo travel are as close to 100% or more as possible to keep resolution

No problem i thought you might have thought this was the official SM avanti page. I'm hoping this jet still turns out to be a good flyer once I get this flutter issue solved. I will keep everyone updated on the result of my changes

Hey Guys

Just finished my Avanti XXL...its been a lot of work.
I did some mods:
Conversion to electric retracts - from Electron
Conversion to BF300 turbine... needed some reenforcements, as well as the VT thrust tube at the rear.
Should be fun...

Here are some pics of the interior elect. tray .
The plane is great quality, I realy like it, although it came out a little too heavy to my taste, and I was careful regarding the weight.
I do hope the BF300 will provide the thrust I need for some extreme 3D flights.

Test flight will by this Thursday... Stay tuned.

Good night,

Ziv

Hi Guys

I finished my avanti xl a few weeks ago. With reinforcements and a custom tail pipe for the BF300 it came out with just under 50lb dry. Here are some videos of the first test flights.
Great airplane, easy to fly and easy to land like a trainer and with igyro and vector thrust lot of fun. All control linkages are reinforced with cfk tubes and so far no problems with flutter.

Hi Dean,

Maiden was great. Plane flies amazingly well.
The Electron gear was not a success however. They did not handle the weight of the strut and wheel (Intairco 115mm with e-brake) and did not close well.
I had to change back to the original air operating retracts.
I flew the plane 5 flights with the air retracts - worked great. Very happy with it.
The BF300 is a great turbine. easy start, unlimited vertical.
Gyro was set, started to practice 3D with it. So far great.
Will upload a video in few days.

Cheers,
Ziv

Does this plane need any down elevator mix with flaps and if yes, what's a good starting point?
