Pikes Peak RC club in Colorado Springs has a nice facility out north east of town. I am pretty sure that is where the local Jet Guys fly. Pueblo also has a nice field but would be probably 15 minutes further away. Maybe only 10 minutes each way. I dont know if any jet flyers fly there.

It is asphalt, don't know the length. Like I said I am pretty sure that's where the local jet flyers fly so it must be adequate in length and width. You are in for a rude awakening due to the field elevation (approx. 6000") . You lose probably 12 to 15 % performance, maybe more on a hot day. A rule of thumb that is pretty close to correct is that if the air temp is 80 add two zeros and that is the effective altitude is 8000", 90 degrees equals 9000" and so on.

do a google search for pikes peak rc club. I the runway dimensions are not listed there call he local hobby shop, they should know. I grew up in Denver and used to fly in competitions at the old Pikes Peak field, I moved away long before the current field was opened so I don't know the dimensions.

Brian is right - we do fight density altitude - but we also fly up here all the time, and even at 90* - just not super heavy metal at that temp! The club field is off Judge Orr highway in Falcon, CO (28 miles from the NW corner of the post - where I live). We have 2, 600 x 40 foot runways with a 200 x 20 foot due E-W crosswind runway.
Any given Sunday we have an average of 5-6 jet guys out with 12 in the club.
Like anything, being used to the altitude makes things comfortable, but even the guys who moved up here from PA and HI this summer got used to it within 3-4 days.
30-35 minutes to our field, 45 -50 to Pueblo.
Hope this helps
Greg

Okay thanks, I understand the performance issues, as a helicopter pilot who has flown in 10K+ mountains real world I was expecting a loss. I havent pulled the trigger yet, hard to pack up and move when one option is to stay where im at for another year. Always wanted to learn to snow ski

Link to Pikes Peak web site:
http://www.pprcflyers.net/Joomla/index.php

A picture of the runways comes up on the home page every 3-4 minutes. There is a lot of model event activity in the area. Warbirds Over the Rockies, Warbirds Over Denver and this year 2 small jet rallies in Ft. Collins, CO.

Field elevations vary from 5,000 to approx. 7,000 ft at the model filed locations.

Very nice field, it's been hard living here, the closest place I can fly is about over an hour away, nothing local. An hour isn't bad but it takes the fun out of it since it's an all day thing when you may just only have a couple hours. Thanks for the info
