The first one had a single servo, this was changed some time ago. They are not designed to be opened at high speed, other than that they are pulled against the wing!?

hey Doug, apparently were are getting conflicting stories, this accord at Georgia jets and the pilot was Franco Di Mauro from house of power hobbies, who was able to bring her in for a safe landing....my sources say that it broke off,,,,but i'll wait until i talk to franco today....

Awesome Doug, thank you for clarification......Guess it held on during flight....gotta ask the question of what the builder did and did he follow the manual or deviate from it.
I was told that the clevis supplied broke.....
I agree with Dave, the manual states not to be used during flights, just landing and take off's.....

They said the slats were up when the failure occurred, but like Dave alluded I'm not sure what kind of forces would cause it to break while in the retracted position let alone pull it forward into the airstream to the point it could fold under. Odd.

Very well said. It would be very nice (great advertisement too) if manufacturer would give something back to a customer of his, instead of copying his work.
I remember the vodaphone silver viper all start copying...no one knew that them numbers on the fin was the birth date of that guys son lol
Im sure Joses artwork will help them make one or two 5000$ sales more anyway..

Ha! Yes, the Viper scheme had my surname painted onto the production paint schemes LOL. The fin numbers that I'd changed to my son's date of birth were on the Hawk scheme I did.

Hey Scott, there was a batch of gear probably a couple years back where the rotation block was drilled at the wrong angle. The wheels still rotate 90 degrees as they should, but at a different point in the retraction cycle so they hit the fuselage side instead of sliding into the wheel wells. The kit I'm building had been sitting a couple years since it was first purchased, and had a seat of gear from that batch.

A question for the guys who have already completed their build. Am I right assuming that the main gear doors need to be on separate valves so that they can be opened and closed separately? To me it seems as if the doors will jam or get stuck if not sequenced properly.

I seem to remember the manual calls for the leg doors to be on the same air circuit as the gear itself but it just makes no sense to not add one more valve in a model this size. I believe everyone adds this, or they should.

Hey Auburn, I have the dubro wheels on mine with no issues what so ever on the gear installation and wheels quality the install of the LG takes some time but with patience you'll get it done right, one thing I did is switching to 5'' Dubro wheells as the stock 5,5 were to close to the wing skin when retracted, also the smaller wheell is thinner doesnt interfere with the doors as it have more space inside the wheel well area and gives him a little more nose up look... hope this helps you

Check your gear has a small amount of toe in, if the wheels sit straight or slightly toe out the 5.5” wheels won’t go through the opening and allow the door to close.
We had to knock the pins out of the axle carriers,twist the block a tiny amount and then drill through the oleo again which elongates the holes a little. If you then fill the end of the oleo with hysol the pins are locked there.

Good tip Dave, thanks. I did get one of the mains positioned where it goes up clean without rubbing the door or the top skin, but it's just held in place right now with 2 wood screws and a 1/16" plywood shim between the gear and the vertical former that runs along the intake. Hopefully I can find that sweet spot again when I bed it in hysol.

I think the wheels I have in a box must be Behotecs having looked at them online, but my goodness are they heavy! Have you flown yours yet and any trouble with the gear retracting? All that weight moving against the airflow including a 90 degree rotation has got to be a lot for the air cylinders to handle.
Should have listened to you the first time. I made an attempt to use the 5.5" wheels since I had them on hand, was able to get them to go into the wells but not flat enough to have the doors close cleanly. Have some 5" wheels on the way now. What sort of tool did you use to clearance the hubs for the brakes?
I could probably change the toe-in a bit like Dave mentioned, but these already appear to have a touch of toe in and I'm not excited at the idea of redrilling the oleos to move them in any more.Plus the clearance into the wheel well is REALLY tight, I'd like to that 1/4" wiggle room on either side.

Andy's SU arrived with me today. Other than the delivery monkey's giving me heart failure with Fork holes through the box (my lucky day since they missed everything!) It's even more stunning in the flesh.

I finally have the gear going up smoothly through test cycles, though still slow with those super heavy wheels/tires and I'm nervous that adding air resistance in flight will ultimately prove too much for the cylinders. Waiting for some 5" Dubro wheels to arrive still. Will leave it to the owner to decide if he wants to fly as is, because otherwise it is ready. And I'm ready to have my garage back!
