Custom airplane painting ?
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a person or company who offers custom painting service for airplanes (starting with white gelcoat finish as delivered from the manufacturer)?
Nothing elaborate like weathering, airbrushing; just a jet paint scheme.
Ive tried some searches and haven't come up with anything ... And I know it is something I would never attempt myself
Thank you

If I had someone close to me, I would not buy another painted ARF again. Im hoping when I settle down somewhere I can find someone that way I can order jets without paint so I can do mods and cut panels for equipment without trying to match paint.
And thats nirlybuilt not nicelybuilt.com

What does one of those sport jet schemes go for? I have no idea. I would pay someone to flatten and buff one out though, that is a misery I will never suffer again.
I paint my own and let me tell you there is not enough room for zeros on the check to do it for someone else!

So many hours involved just in preparation.
Then the whole drama of actually spraying on the finish coats. So many things can go wrong at this stage. (And when it does, it’s nasty.)
Finally, the immense amount of work to flatten and polish.
However, the satisfaction quotient is pretty high when you get it right.
I think most commercial car painters won’t consider models due to the small, and fragile parts involved..

Most car painters also don't take into account the amount of weight they are adding to a model.
I do all of my own painting. And of course i'm still learning new things all of the time.
I've heard of people paying in up wards of $5000 or more for a really nice sport jet paint job.

Maybe these guys would consider doing a model. They claim to be much cheaper than a paint job. They could probably also put flite metal on for you. http://www.planevinyl.com/index.php

If you find someone, be prepared to pay some money, I can tell you this, I JUST finished my 1/6 skymaster f16 monday night. It was alot of work, I started with the base camo paint from skymaster, then laid out my plane, sprayed the colors, then applied the transfers, then shot the whole jet with 2 coats of flat clear, then 2 more coats of gloss clear on the colors. Im glad I did it myself, and am very happy with the results, it turned out great. BUT I would not do a paint job for someone else, its too much work,
I know this, figuring in the paints, hardner, reducer, clears, prep, sandpapers, tapes, masking papers, mixing cups, filters, ETC. I have over 500$ in matierials alone. And I did all of it myself,,Paint aint cheap my friend, so when you find someone willing to do the paint and stand behind his work, Pay him. If you cant find anyone I know a master builder in Florida, who does killer paint, but he stays busy, and I know couple guys in Austin who do great work.
Heres some pics of my finished 16, for those interested...

Nice Work Ronnie!! A custom F-16.. The wing tanks are going to really help visibility.
While painting a model can initially seem intimidating, the skills can be learned.. Right Raville??

Chip knows how to paint planes, keep them light, with a mirror clear finish. Wont find better in the US for airbrush work ...
here's some he did for me.
