bvm vs os91 in byron fan
I am building a Bob Parkinson Regal Eagle and since I can only fly off grass am going to be putting a Byron fan in it. Is there any advantage to using a BVM .91 over an OS .91DF large head? The BVM's occasionally show up on Ebay. Will the BVM work in a pusher fan or will it overheat since it has been designed so specifically for a tractor fan. Also will it over rev? Is one engine easier to deal with for a newby into DF? Any other pros or cons would be appreciated.
thanks,

RE: bvm vs os91 in byron fan
Bob I would stay away from teh BVM .91 in hte BYronb fan unit. My best guess is you will rost it in a short minute. It was designed for one fan unit and operated very good with it, but anything else, I just don't think so.
Stay with the OS and your success will be much higher.

Thanks John. After researching the BVM motor here on RCU I was starting to get that feeling and wanted to get feedback from someone who had been there.

Bob,
A Byron fan would load down a BVM engine too much and it would never get to peak power. The engine and fan have to be a proper match. The BVM engine works well in a 4.75" diameter BVM fan because it reaches its peak power at a higher rpm than an OS91. The OS91 works well with a 6" diameter Byron fan. It would be just like putting too big a propeller on a prop engine.
Overheating would also be a concern as John mentioned.
