RE: Jet Legend F/A-22 Raptor build thread
My F22 has flown 5 flights on a P80 and it flew very well!! I then put a P120se in and it is more than enough power, it's a fast plane, very sleek!

Hi John,
I didn’t use the hinges that came with the kit; I used the large Robart pin hinges and added one to the stock setup.
The servos I used for the rudders: JR 3421's.
3421: Specs
Type: Mini Digital
Torque: 65 oz/in @ 4.8V, 75 oz/in @ 6V
Speed: .18 sec/60° @ 4.8V, .15 sec/60° @ 6V
Dimensions (WxLxH): 0.58 x 1.30 x 1.02
Weight: 1.04 oz
Bearing: Dual ball bearing output
Motor Type: Coreless
The JR 3421 will fit in the stock rudder location without any mods. Make sure there is no slop in the linkage, I used thread lock on the clevis' and jam nuts.
So far no signs of flutter.
You can also search for "Pyolet" aka Woody, he has a really good build thread also. His rudder method uses JR 8411's mounted in the fuse, this is really a powerful setup!
I really think the P160 is over kill, but really recommend that you replace the Jetlegend pipe for Tam's. The JL's is thin and is really safe to use for a P80 size turbine.
I’m using the Titan SE, (34 pounds) the Titan has more then enough power for this jet.
Don't know of anyone flying without gear doors, but again would recommend it? Gear doors help keep the fuse internal pressure down when flying at high speeds, also they look really cool!
Good luck,
Chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the input. The rudder servo,s sound like a good idea. Woody,s rudder idea is excellent but i would prefer to use the standered servo mount/tray. Are you using Tam,s pipe ? The Titan is similar to a 160 i believe. Once i finish a repair to my f15 i am realy keen to start on the f22. The no gear doors idea is due to our local jet field being grass and i would like to use it there.

Hi John,
please check my thread.
I am using Tam's pipe and I have been flying my F-22 on grass (My local rc club), with no issues. Recently, I got permission to fly at a local airport (paved runway), which is close to my home. The early part of my thread talks about flying this jet on grass.

Guys,
if anyone has a set of main gear doors that they would let me barrow, I can replace them as soon as I get mine from Jet Legend. Or just purchase them out right?
Last Friday, I lost the main lower left side gear door while in flight and need that door for an upcoming fly-in.
If anyone can help, please email or PM me.
Thanks,
Chris

Recently, Lockheed Martin hosted 12 original members of the Tuskegee Airman for our LM family day. Lockheed flew in a full size P-51D, T-6, Stearman, and I brought out the F-22A. The guys loved my 22 and were thrilled to autograph the jet.
Close to 15,000 people came to see the guys.
These guys are true war heroes and are carrying on the Tuskegee Airman tradition through educating the young. Nicest bunch of guys I've ever met, and at the age of 80 and older, sharp as a tack.
Here's some pics.

No, Thank YOU Chris! and THANK YOU Lockeed Martin!
I spent the day with Grandpa out at his office today and when I received a email that these pictures were up, I promptly showed them to him on my phone. He called his buddy Wilfred Defour and a couple of the others to let them know he was looking at them online. He had this to say......"Thank You! This is really something for those of us who couldn't make it there. I really wish I could have been there Saturday with the guys." (Grandpa had a speech to give at the local Tuskegee Airmen park on Saturday, then had to cancel that due to a medical condition with an extended family member who is in a nursing home nearby.)
"There's Spann!, in the red blazer." he said "and Defour!" Lt. Colonel Spann Watson is 92 years old and like all of these men, just full of amazing stories, he retired from the FAA and there are two aviation waypoints on the way to Chicago that are named after him. "Spann" and "Watsn". Grandpa said, "everyone used to think we were brothers back in the service because of our last names, we would always laugh about that. It's been a while since I've seen him in person although I talk to him on the phone every so often.......here's a picture of us from a few years back, he's in the center." Then he said, "Wilfred Defour and I met down in Tuskegee in the beginning and we stayed in the same tent, then we stayed in the same tent overseas with 4 other guys during the war..........all the others have passed away and it's just he and I left from that group. I'll give you a picture of the bunch of us back then." He then chuckled and said......"We looked pretty young." (Grandpa turned 88 about a week and a half ago.)
Then Grandpa called me pretty late this evening and said he had just gotten off the phone with Wilfred Defour for almost an hour...............he said......."Let me tell you something.......Lockeed really took care of us you know that? Defour said they rolled out the red carpet for the guys, everything! I'm so glad see this, all of us being honored like this. It's like all at once, so much in the past couple years, what a great feeling to have people doing all this for us."
Here are a few pictures I have from today (I'll add a couple more that grandpa said he'll give to me tommorow.)

RE: Jet Legend F/A-22 Raptor build thread
As for me..............well, I had to work on Thursday and I was pretty bummed out about Grandpa not being able to make it and me not being able to go as well. But then there was a strange irony that came into play on Friday afternoon. After flying from Seattle to Washington DC, we were supposed to catch a commuter flight to Philidelphia to layover. That flight was cancelled, so our schedule was changed to have us flying up to Chicago Friday night to layover all day Saturday until the evening. (I seriously thought about trying to catch a flight over to New York just spend a few hours with these gentlemen and then try to high tail it back to Chicago to do my night flight to California, but it was too risky so I just sat there on the van to the hotel thinking about how great of a time Chris and thousands of other people were going to be having at the Lockeed Martin facility with the Tuskegee Airmen. Then the van driver said something that put me in a bit of a better mood; "How long you guys here for?" .........."Till tommorow night" I replied. "Oh well then you guys will be able to go to the 50th Anniversary Air and Sea Show." Whaaaa?[8D]
Well the weather was just perfect in Chicago on Saturday for an airshow, 60 degrees in the morning, no clouds, light breeze coming off the lake and 3.1 million people. All of the performances were fantastic, B-1,B-2,Harrier,F-15,16's,18,22,and everything else that flew, the Blue Angels....."unbelievable" the one solo on the break around the buildings and "in-between" the Sears tower and the apartment building with smoke!.......jaw dropping, I almost caught it, but was'nt expecting it, hopefully there's a youtube on it. I wasn't expecting to be there, thus I didn't have my new camera with me but I always have old faithfuld with me, so I took a bunch of pictures, not the greatest but you'll get the idea.

Now although I've seen the F-22 at Airshows before, it's always been static and roped off with armed personell around it.
NOT THIS TIME!
This was the first time I was able to witness a F-22 Airshow demo live..........two words. AWESOME and LOUD! What blend of beauty and beast this bird is. Chris, you and the rest out there that have F-22 models enjoy!
Here's a pretty good you tube from Saturday's performance. [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-7jKIkqEls]F-22 Demo Chicago 2008[/link]
And a few pics I was able to get...........(Bela, where you at!)

RE: Jet Legend F/A-22 Raptor build thread
After the F-22 performed, the jet flew overhead inland and joined up for a Airforce Heritage formation flight with none other than a P-51, F-4 and F-15.
First time I've seen four in a heritage live as well.........VERY COOL.
Afterwards, as my Captain and I walked through the crowds making our way to a tent for food, he says to me. "Look at that! There's a Tuskegee Airmen tent!" (he knew where I wanted to be and heard about it the whole way from Washington D.C. up to Chicago, because I told him, I may try to jump on a flight over to NY and spend the morning there .) So to my surprise, I was able to meet and talk with a few Tuskegee Airmen afterall. [8D]
"All things work themselves out." is what my grandfather likes to say. And although I wasn't able to see the Tuskegee Airmen and Chris with his F-22 in New York, I guess I had the next best thing.
Chris,
Thank You for coming on here and initially inviting my grandfather and I to attend the Lockeed Martin event a couple months ago, and then posting a follow up here now, we sure do appreciate it, and to your colleagues at Lockeed Martin, a big THANK YOU from not only myself, but from all the Tuskegee Airmen I'm sure as well. Pride runs deep and it shows in that beautiful fighter you've all built and the hospitality you have shown in hosting 4 wonderful days for these gentlemen.
Take Care Everyone,
Fly Safe

Hi Guys
After reading through all the threads about the JL F-22 again, I wonder which is the best CG position to maiden the plane. I've read 120mm, 180mm and 210mm so far, which is quite a difference. What do you think?
Thanks

The 'factory' CG position is quite nose heavy. I can't remember what i ended up at but it's regarded as a safe starting point!
You can use a matting paste to flatten the glossy finish and it doesn't add weight.
Cheers
Jeff
