New project L-39

RE: New project L-39
WARBIRDRCER, Since we did not hook up to fly with the other guys, I got a lot done today. Here is a pic of the "angle of attack" sitting on the ground. Not sure if this is to much 'negative'.....REMEMBER no turbine or fuel on board yet. Hoping it will settle down with 4lb turbine and 6-7lbs fuel.
I tried many set ups from ACE Hardware.
Found 3 small springs I could fit inside the original SM springs but plane still squatted and bottomed out.
I tried longer replacement springs all together but they too were not any better and actually softer than SM springs.
Finally, I checked to see how much space was still available in strut housing with the SM spring and cut off this amount from a second spring to fill the gap. I cut a section from a new 5/16" diamter spring. You can see in picture how I measured the length holding next to strut.

Hello all, I am glad to inform everyone who cares that the L-39 is on its gear, and the gear checks went great. All of the control function checks went good, except for the ailerons. I am waiting for new Pro Links to come in for them. I will be installing the Turbine tomorrow for the final time, and getting ready for fuel leak checks. Not long, and I hope to have the success Ali did.
Thanks all for the input on this link.

Don, I received a message from Brent, and El Reno is fine. He will most likely fly the A1-E Skyraider over with the gang if it is out of the paint shop on time, or he may bring the L-39. Either way we can get some shots of the models with the full scale war birds.
Are you flying the L-39 tomorrow?

I checked my afternoon schedule, If nothing else comes up I will see you at the airport to fly over to the flying site. Does that sound right, fly over to the flying site? If anything changes I will call you before 1230.
By the way, what was the link to your flight videos?

Steve,
The L39 looks great, good luck on the maiden flight. if you still have problems with the struts use a 3/8" carbonfiber rod, it solved the problem on mine. I now have 171 flight on my Airworld L39, got a new RTI2800 turbine which moves the model with authority.
I'll be taking this model to Top Gun 09 in May, hope you can make it.
Rene

Hey Warbird.
Which new project are you referring to? ( there are a few on the go at once right now )
If its the L-39? Then great. It flys well and is proving to be a fun little model. The P1-20 is so overpowered for it. I am tempted to swap it out and put one of the new generation of higher power light weight turbines around the 20 lbs mark.
I just dropped the model off to my painter yesterday. I love the finish on the L-39 but I have always thought that it could do with a little personalization. At the same time I am working on a "How to" DVD with my painter and thought the L-39 might be a good start on How to bring a pre painted ARTF to life with some weathering and detail techniques.

Rene, Good to hear from you my friend. I hope to be in Lakeland during Top Gun doing some work with Obie. I will call you as soon as I have a schedule. Say I lost my photo of your AW Hawk, could you post me a photo here where I can copy it. My computer at work crashed and I lost the one I copied from Palm Coast. Tell Carlos I said hello.
Ali, I am glad the L-39 proved to be a great plane. I hope to have fun with this one. I do want the information on the painting also. What projects are you working on now?
Thinwing, how are things going??

It has been some time since I have been able to work on this project, the temps are coming up and finally it's OK to work in the garage. I'm trying to get this project on the way with the little time I have at home.
Sooooooo, the doors are something that takes time and patience, I'm trying to get them done so I can move on to do the stuff I have done many times ( installation ) here are some pics of the doors.
I'm still trying to figure out the air cylinder set up for the doors the Left door is more or less done, now the thing to do is to replace the ply with thicker ply and glue it with hysol samething with the door aircylinder attachment.
After this the wing and stabs are next.[&:]
I like to thank averyone that has contributed to this build thread, fom here and from over there.

CARS II,
Glad to see you back on-line. Well the L-39 flew on Tuesday April 14, and it was great. Don Perry conducted the first flight, the second flight I got some air time, third flight I took off, and fourth flight was my first solo with a jet. Thanks Don!!
We only had to make very minor trim and program adjustments, but over all it flew great.
Each flight started and ended with a complete inspection of all control surfaces, horns, and overall condition inspection with no findings to stop the flights.
Looking forward to more!!

Nice work CARS II,
As the photo shows, the L-39 does not have the gear doors on it yet. I wanted to put a few flights on it first, but they will be added soon. It just should have them, so please keep me posted on the steps you are taking. FLY200's has doors and they work great. Between his and yours I should be able to get them right.

Sure man!!!! and thanks.
I'm moving on to the Elevators this weekend, the rudder is done and installed on the fuse, on the doors, the how? is done but I'm still thinking of doing more things to them to renforce them so they can take the punisment of the every day flying ( carbon fiber renforcement ) I will be posting all that.
I like to thank my friend Ali from the other side of the pond for taking the time to post his build, comments and pictures in this thread, some of us are benefiting from his ideas on how to build.
Thanks dude and sorry I miss you at Ca Jets [&o] ( I guest I will have to travel to the UK to see you this year [:@] )
