I have fitted lighter (25g) Futaba 9071SB servos to the rudders. After adjusting the mounts to fit i probably ended up saving about 8g per side so maybe not worth it. I usually use 3mm or 4-40 rods but I'm going to use 2-56 here to save weight too.

I think a light elevator servo might be a good option. I'm going to use Savox 1251MG which is 15g lighter than an 8411. Again, not a massive saving though.

If your model is ok with the weight I'd probably just leave it as it is.

Funnily enough i happen to have a savox 1251 on the bench that was destined for my electra. That could be borrowed until its later required.

I know what you mean about the lighter rudder servos- i could potentially save 37grams, and reduce the need for double that weight in the front- Is it really worth £45 just for that??

Again the UAT, i know what you mean, Im using a jetronic clunk which is like a mini UAT inside the main tank anyway!

Leave it as it is, enjoy it and I'm guessing you will not notice the weight, if you could shift 300grams of drag, then it would be worth it, but that aeroplane/wing area you are just wasting good building/flying time!

if you mount your UAT (50 oz dubro) towards the front of the board, this plane does not require any ballast (with wren 70 and x2 5 cell in front of main tank, standard servos for rudders and elevator ecu lipo on top of the main kero tank)

I think youre right guys- no point spending money to move weight around, or adding complexity such as a UAT that i dont need, or wasting valuable building time. I think Ill leave it as it is.

Hey Pete,

The canpoy on my Nano as well as my buddies are both horribly hazy/cloudy.

At some point, perhaps next winter, I will probably re-cover or glass/paint my Nano at which point I will put a different canopy on it.

my nano canopy is really clear, in contrast I have 2 xl canopy's that are cloudy.
my UAT is a 50 oz dubro, about 5 bucks worth from memory.

Might be a stupid suggestion but have you removed any protect film?

You could also try polishing it, with 1600-2000 wet and dry paper

I like your idea/drawing Gordon.

I agree that the stock canopy leaves a bit to be desired, but it's an ARF and I am certainly happy with my little Nano. The LHS near me has a great selection of canopies. I am sure that I will find something to fit it.

I want to fly the heck out of it this season and save the modeling and reworking for next winter. I have R/C cabin fever now! When I do go through it I am going to keep it true to its roots but try to make it look a bit more military.

Anyone have any pics of any redone Nano's?

Hi guys,

I would like to share an experience that is both an admittion of negligence on my part and also a testiment to the Nano's sound structure.

From time to time I visit friends in South Africa and decided last year to ask one of them to put a Nano together for me (at my expense) so that I have something to fly when I get over there. He did and I must say the little Navy scheme realy looks good. Fitted with Pro-Links and a standard Wren 54, all was ready to fly. We put it together at RMAC (one of the best fields I have had the honour of flying at) outside Johannesburg - at 5500 feet alitude.

Manage to have three successful 10 minute flights before heading home - only to find, NO WING TUBE was installed when we put it together, only the four locating pins.

Wow, sometimes one need a bit of luck and a well engineered model (flown smoothly).

Thought you might enjoy that (at my expense).

I moved the CG back from 11 to 10.5 last week. I had to cut down some throw on the elevator, but overall easier to land.. flared sweet!!

Last year it felt touchy... when I rebuilt the booms it actually flew more solid. I still think it needs stiffer booms, but oh well...

weather has been crappy here so not many flights.

We have had these 2.5ltr Nano tanks made, which are now available for longer flight times on P-60 and other 54 size turbines. In stock now at M&R or Boomerang Jets UK.
The tests are showing 8 1/2-9 minute flights on a P-60

The boomerang jets website has this tank as 2.7 litre. I asked Colin about the possibility of a smoke variant and that extra 0.2 litres could be quite critical! Do you know the fuel/smoke split (and price) of the smoke variant?

Smoke makes a real mess on boomers too much for it to hit at the back end

I'll inform him if he does not pick this up. We reduced the height fractionally to give strap clearance. Not done a smoke version yet, I'll work out materials and time addition. Our thought was 1.6ltr and 0.9 ltr.
I am with Dennis (rare day) as smoke does make such a mess!
The mould and design may allow a tiny bit more of either.

That makes sense. Don't worry about a smoke tank quote for me then. I'll probably save the smoke for another model and go with the extra fuel instead. I'm running out of room for the pump anyway!!

That tank does look nice and fits a treat............. Is there some way you could incorporate a clear bit so you can see the fuel level or is it possible to see through it enough

You can see through...but with the top on the fuselage you can't

With a P-60 type turbine set a timer at 8 mins and then see how much fuel you have left...

If you point the smoke nozzle slightly downward so that it doesn't hit the tail (no motor runnning), and you pinch the edge of the pipe so it atomizes well, the mess is minimal. I love smoke, I miss it. Im thinking about going back to the elan after this season..
