It looks better in real life, especially the way the wing blends into the boom, the bottom is all yellow with a little detail on it, but mostly plain, I am going to try airbrushing some detail onto the nose, will post if it comes out OK, but not if it dosn't.

Hi guys,

After weeks of reading this thread and building, my Nano finally flew today! Thank you to all who have posted the tips and tricks they have learned here. The thread was absolutely worth reading stop to stop. It definately made my own build a bit shorter and cleaner.

The Nano was my first turbine. Everything that I have read is true....almost- I did read a post or two regarding a Nano that did not live up its pedigreed quality. Perhaps that one snuck past the QC guy/department. My Nano was what I expected from an ARF- a great starting point.

My Nano has the Dreamworks gear package, a Wren 54 Mk 2, 2 A123 1100 Mah rx batts, and HS7985 servos (some may say overkill, cost too much, etc but that's what I wanted).

I'd like to offer up a special thanks to SSkianpour for parting with the Nano, Ron at Wren USA for answering ALL my questions, and FurloughedUAL & Aquaskiman for the dual/instruction and signing the waiver! You guys have all been awesome!

Hi Guys great thread thanks to all.
Started assembling the nano today,with the centre section.
Air brake/flap no problem,my only concern is the undercart mounting blocks i think mine are made from a very brittal hard wood.
I pre drilled the holes for the retracts one size under the screw size and very slowly tightend the screw,the wood still tried to split so soaked both mounts in thin Cyno i hope this holds up.
Iam useing the E Flight 120 size electric retracts they look superb and work a treat. so easy to set up,flying off our grass strip will give them a real test.
Ill report back when theve been used in anger.

Is it feasible to fly a wren54 powered nano from tarmac without brakes? Is the landing speed slow enough not to need them?

I'm obviously not in the US do they're not mandatory for me.

Plastic or metal wheels?

Yes, the Nano will land very slowly, but it's while taxying it's critical. What I do is compress a double length (compared to space) piece of silicon tubing between the wheel and collet. When you start moving the heat will allow the wheel to turn free enough to take off, by the time you land it cools and acts as a break again. You might need to experiment.
Worked for years on my Savex L-39 with metal wheel hubs. With Nylon hubs the wheel is not so free

Im about to maiden mine tomorrow, but i just went to check the CG- Its at least 5 cm behind the manuals!

Are we measuring the 273mm from the trailing edge of the aileron, or the trailing edge of the wing?

And is 273mm a good figure?

For reference Im using a wren 44 gold, without a UAT, and batteries are fully fwd on the equipment tray.

273mm to TE of flap! I think it's a good postion. Wow how come so far back!

You need to add weight, what size of batteries are you using? On tray or in cubby hole slot in front?

Im using a 1600 mah lipo for the receiver, and a 1600 mah for the ecu, both are on the front of the tray, not in the cubby hole.

Im using the spektrum servos on the rudder and an 8411 on the elevator.

The 44 gold is about as far fwd as i dare on the mounting rails.

Damn the lightweight equipment we have these days

About to scour the workshop for some lead ( or old nicds)

Even using a 44, everything needs to be forward, metal gear elevator servo adds a little extra a long ways back! I used an 8231 Nylon gear. Batteries need to be in cubby hole to reduce ballast.
Still a light aeroplane, but sounds like you need a hunk in the nose. Couple of 5000mAh Li-Pos and you can fly a month!
Set lots of expo on ailerons, decent amount of down on full flap...

The avionics are biased towards the front of the tray.

Just added old nicds to use as ballast. Needed 1 lb 1 oz of them all in cubby hole or inside nose gear bay.[X(]

Seems wrong to have to add that much weight, I need to look into what i could have done wrong.

I had a tweaked Supersport in mine that was knocking out around 19 pounds, it had been in my Classic Bandit previously. Not surprisingly it did not need much of a take off run and had considerable vertical performance. It has plastic hubbed wheels and i flew it from tarmac runways with no problems taxiing and the residual thrust on landing did not give any problems wether i was flying from my local patch which is a bit tight or from a runway.

There seems to be many different types of servos used. I am trying to finish my nano so I would like some opinions on the servos that I have lying around. I have Multiplex 65173 Royal MC V2 UNI with 5 cells they put out 55 NCM torque and are non digital. The other ones that I have are Multiplex digital 65374 Profi Digi. UNI at 6v torque 55 NCM and holding power 100 NCM. ANY THOUGHTS???

I maidened mine on wednesday at Wroughton.

Im pleasantly surprised at the performance on the 44 gold- a lot nicer than i thought it would be.
My setup was a 44 gold, eflite elec retracts, wire legs and basic dubro wheels, jr 589 and spektrum 821 servos and an 8411 on the tail. Spektrum 9 ch receiver and powerbox digiswitch.

I had four flights and two flameouts due to having too much fun and running out of fuel. Timer is now set to 7 minutes on a 1 litre tank.

I progressively took my noseweight out and found that having 525 grams on the front of the tray and in the cubby hole gave a model i was happy flying, with little down elevator required when flying inverted.
My two 1600 lipos are only 175gram so i need 350g of noseweight.
Options
a) So the dilemma is do i swap the two spektrum 821 servos in the rudder at 40gram each and 5.5 kg torque for hitec 5125 at 3.5 kg torque and 26gram- that should save me 100 gram at the front due to moment arms.
And/ or change the 8411 to something lighter.

b) Or i can buy two overlander 2 cell 4400 lipos to give me the same weight.

c) Or i can put at UAT in, but again thats dead weight.

You know the answer already even with jets the lighter they are the better they fly, good to see another convert not using a UAT.
