Default Valve for green bottle propane?

Does anyone have a vendor for a propane valve for the green bottle propane. I'd like to use this with the AMT. I want it to screw on the top and, have adjustable flow and be able to plug the 3mm tubing into it.

Thanks,
Joe

I used a cheap propane torch head and adapted a fitting for the tubing. The older ones the tip would un-screw from the valve. the newer ones you have to cut.

Joe,

I got mine a few years ago from Great Northern Models............Just the other day, I saw the same valve less the Festo at Walmart. It is sold as a conversion kit for a Coleman stove.........

Apparently the green propane bottles have a much higher pressure than the powermax or primus mixed gases, and a regulating valve, such as the one Todd sells is required....

My Rhino does not like the regulated one like Todd sells, just not enough pressure to get it going.I made one like the others did out of a propane tourch.I am sure they are still regulated some how, probally some kind of restrictive jet for flow control, but not as nice as a diaphram regulator like Jimbo has made.I also use this on my electric start AMT 280 with no problems.

The one in the picture is a modified propane torch valve the reason for the adjustable regulator was so we could eliminate the onboard propane tank and regulator. This has worked well for Rogers A-10 Marks and my electric and air start turbines.

Hi Mark

Today I bought a valve like yours (Bernz O Matic) at Home Depot, but I wonder what mods do I have to make in order to make it work. Can you explain please?

I will really appreciate your help.

Todd from dreamworks has the one that works perfectly. Might save a dime making your own, but what will you waste in gas $ and time?

Joe,

As you found out, the regulated valve such as the one from DW will not work with the Jet Centrals if you leave the restrictor in the gas line; there just isn't enough gas available if it is "regulated" twice.

I have been using the regulated valve without restrictor for over three years without issues, but I don't think JCentral recommends it. The problem is, I run several brands of turbines and want to use only one propane source and valve, so I have adapted the Centrals to be used without the restrictor since the beginning.

George is absolutely correct in all points he writes. Can this be done. . .Yes - Do we recommend or support this. . .NO

For the very experienced user, George's procedure works and works consistantly. However, for the lesser experienced or newbee, this procedure can get you into a bad situation. Hot start, very high temp fire with possible damage to the turbine and the jet model. For these reasons, we implement the filter/restrictor unit. This system works perfectly well, (unless contaminated) controls gas and supplies constant pressure to the turbine.

Never bypass or eliminate the gas solenoid valve. Again, this can get you into a nasty situation. cause possible damage to the turbine and may affect your Lifetime Warranty coverage.

For best results, follow Jet Central's manual, installing the system as designed. This insures your success and enjoyment with your jet engine.

Thanks,
Eric Clapp

Thanks Eric, I am usuing the Colman green propane bottle. Do I need to invert the bottle when filling the small white propane bottle onboard the airplane? Which valve does JC reccomend for this type propane bottle.
I also sent you a PM.

JC,
I drilled the orifice out on mine. You may or may not have to do this so try it first without drilling. I don't bypass any of the restrictors, valves or solenoids on the engines. I still have the on-board tank in the plane in case I want to use Powermax and use the normal fill port. The fiitings are just stuff I had laying around. The piece on the end is from the plumbing dept I think for an ice maker ($.85 ??). Just solder or JB Weld the correct size of brass tubing for the gas line or festo.

When starting I first open the valve to add some pressure to the system and then close it. I don't use a gauge. After ignition I crack open the valve and listen to the sound of combustion as the engine spools. I can tell by the sound whether or not I have enough or too much gas. You could use the ECU to determine how fast the temp is rising but I usually just listen. I've never had any flames doing it this way and the starts are smooth. I never tried to fill the on board tank with propane, only PowerMax or equivalent gas mix.
