RE: spark ignition for turbines
Just a short note on this subject:
As ecu manufacturer, we considered and tested the spark ignition some years ago to be included in the ecus. Ignition was OK, but the possibility that the high voltage could damage the electronic components in the ecu (happened during tests), forced us to reject the idea. For those who need a reliable glow plug ignition, we can offer a ceramic glow plug, very similar to the ones used in kerostart, but with a thinner element and less power. Compatible with ecus from software version 5.54 and up.

Please note that unauthorised modifications can invalidate your warranty on an engine - for example, Gaspar has said that the high voltage could cause damage to the ECU, and obviously neither Gaspar (as manufacturer of the ECU) nor Wren ( as manufacturer of the engine and retailer of the ECU) would cover you for this.

You all bring good points and thanks for bring them up, but so far with my design, I have made 10 starts with no problem whatsoever, and the starts are quick and solid
I know you have to cover your ass, and I understand that...

RE: spark ignition for turbines
OK guys , you asked for it, you got it, the turbine spark ignition will be availlable within the next two to three weeks.
This will be a plug and play.
After over 20 starts , there has been no problem , and easily starts first shot...
Check my web site for pricing or contact me directly.

With Kero Start becoming more and more prevalent with the added advantage of a single fuel, I would say your product idea has a very limited lifecycle.
In my experience, I use the 10% rule- ie, in reality, only 10%of those who express interest will actually buy.

For those who know me, I develop things for my own need first . then if someone wants it, I will see if I can make it availlable.
I will test it for my own use, if it passes all test as I have done with my fiber optic servo extensions, then and only then will it be availlable.
So with this between my partner Hayes Hutchins and myself, we have enough turbines to use my first production run so its no problem.
A lot of propane start outhere ...

Do the plug fit in standard glowplug hole?
Do the plug fit in standard glowplug hole?
Yes it does, its a direct replacement. It is plug and play, very simple... No modification to the turbine or to the ECU..

RE: spark ignition for turbines
WOW...... no more burnt glow plugs. I want one
But the first turbine I bought is still on the original glow plug after
3 years flying & lots & lots of flights.
At just $5 a glow plug this idea makes no sense to me.
It sounds like you have a more expensive, more complicated replacement
for something that works perfectly anyway.
Like I said, good luck, but I will not be lining up to buy one. - John.

Have you had the opportunity to test it on several different turbines/ ECUs yet?
Have you had the opportunity to test it on several different turbines/ ECUs yet?
No I haven't but I am sending a few units to my buddy and co developper, Hayes Hutchins, in Alabama, he has Wren turbines and other makes also
but basically, they will all the work the same because of the way I have done this.
As I said , there are no modifications to either the ECU or the turbine aside from replacing the glow plug with the spark plug .
