Jason,
Many F104G's have their guns removed. Those in museums and privately owned. The gun hole was then closed as SM model. I think it was the model on hand in static display that was modeled....

Hello gents, I've been reading the -1 (flight manual) and insofar as the manual is concerned, the level flight attitude for the F-104G is 3 degrees nose up as referenced from the top of the fuselage.
I believe the designers intended the full scale thrust line to push through the vertical CG point. In full scale this reduces pitch trim changes with changes in thrust.
I agree our models need corrected thrust angles due in large part to the fact that our airplanes accelerate at much higher rates and those increases in airspeed require trim changes. Full scale airplanes also require pitch trim changes with changes in indicated airspeed. With models though, this is deemed unacceptable work load for obvious reasons. Mixes are a pain to get just right so the best solution seems to be a change of thrust line.
Just my understanding.
So I guess where I'm going is the simple fact that I'm constantly upset every time I look up the back end of our models and see the pipe off center. It just looks weird. I'm going to fly with SM's factory setup and once comfortable try centering the pipe in the nozzle. I hope one of you experienced 104 flyers will try this before me! 😉. Wouldn't it be nice to have a centered pipe with a working nozzle?

I always think a Satin finish ( but closer to Matt rather than gloss ) looks better. For me the flat finish is just too flat. As well as being difficult to keep clean. Especially on a scheme such as this.
We have played around allot with top coats and unless it is a really weathered/ battered type finish like an in service and war torn jet then Satin seems to present the best. We save dead Matt's for the Mig 21's If its clean then its Satin.
Just my thoughts..
Regards Al
