X29 Fighter
Hey guys when I was a kid I has a modle of a F15 and X29. I dreamed of these 2 planes as a kid
Well I got my F15. But looking for a turbine x29 or SU47. Are there any kits for these foward sweeping wing jets? |
I havent seen one in years

I know someone had a magazine article that converted the Byron F16 to an F16XL, i vaguely remember seeing something like that for the F20 to a X29 as well.

IIRC, the X-29 would not fly without the onboard computers. Not sure how you'd duplicate that in a model?

It's sad. I just picked up a Byron F20 it looks like it could be converted to a X29 with some work

Both the X29 and the Su47 have flown successfully as models.
Turbine model Su47 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HorHb8IJLNo X29 turbine model https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxBAoeUxK7Y Ron Sweeney had a IC ducted fan model that flew many years ago in the UK. It had no gyro. It is a common misconception that these planes need a gyro because the full size will not fly without computer aids. There is a foam Su47 that flies very well. You have to be sure to make the wings have 'wash in' rather than 'wash out'. John |
John, Thanks for posting the two videos, very very nice.

The main reason full scale jets need an FCC to fly is not necessarily because they are inherently unstable, it is because the design CG makes them unstable. F-16. for example, is tail heavy by design. FCC compensates for that, but it also allows for great manouverability when the flight control laws are "relaxed" during specific flight envelopes.
But we know we can adjust the CG of the F-16 and make it a very good flying, stable, airframe. Same applies to te X29, SU-47.........get the right CG, and they will fly good. |
