I drove it alot the other day and it is starting to get broken in . It can just about pull wheelies now. I didn't realize the engines take so long to breakin. It really picked up alot of speed in the last couple tanks.

ORIGINAL: grampi

See, if HPI would offer the SS kit with no radio or engine, you wouldn't be stuck with the doggy .25, and you'd already have the money to install that Picco .26 and then it would easily do wheelies!

Spoken by a person who doesnt own a savage and has never driven a S-.25, take it with a GIANT grain of salt.

my SS now has about a half gallon through it, is dialed wonderfully iand is pretty dang fast, but even after swithing the spur to the 53 tooth i still can not really get wheelie on demand action in grass or the street.

hopefully by the time the time this 30% is through it will be, i am also running 37.5 rear shock oil so i would figure with 30% 53 spur 15 clutch bell it should never keep the front down but it sure does.

got to try mine at the track today, screamed by the tmaxxs and even kept up with one or two 1/8 scale buggies.

not bad at all.

30% nitro and a good tuning and break in seemed to ddo the trick, still no wheelie action though.

So what is the verdict? HPI's ad shows the truck pulling a wheelie. I don't have enough fuel through mine yet to know.

I can't imagine mine doing a wheelie with the stock clutch. It just doesn't grab hard/quick enough. Once it's engaged, it goes like mad.

What would be a good aftermarket clutch to help with pulling wheelies?

yes the verdict is yes it will wheelie.

stock clutch stock engine.
stock springs.

now it does not do it as the picco 26 does , which if you have not used one, it is insane.

but it will do them on pavement as well as grass, i actually flipped hard from one today and scratched the hell out of my cooling head.

I have a savage ss, instead of using that crappy hpi engine I bought an xtm 24.7 pro. I sold the hpi engine outright . The 24.7 pro has the most power for the money you will find anywhere. It pulls wheelies more than any engine I have ever seen. Break-in was a joy, it never stalled not once can you believe it. Definitely the best engine on the market right now and that IS my opinion

try a wasp 26 or a picco 26, 170 for either and a bit stronger and faster then the xtm

there are way better then any of those if you want to spend the money.

JAYNC: That S-25 isn't "crappy" - it's one hell of an engine.

I'm sure anyone else here who's took the time to nurture theirs to life will agree with me here...

A decent nitro content through it (like the recommended 20% - most people recommend 16% :P) and a decent tuning, as well as a good half gallon through it to start you off and that engine goes like the clappers!
